Nissan Gravite in CNG: Dealer-Level Retrofit Planned

According to the company, the CNG option will initially be offered as a dealer-level retrofit kit rather than a factory-fitted variant. The system will use a dual-cylinder (twin-tank) layout, which replaces a single large tank with two smaller cylinders.

This configuration is designed to retain usable boot space, a key concern in three-row vehicles where luggage capacity is often compromised when running on CNG.

Engine and Transmission Compatibility

The upcoming CNG setup will be paired with the Gravite’s existing 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces around 72 hp and 96 Nm of torque.

The CNG option is expected to be available only with the 5-speed manual transmission, in line with typical retrofit configurations. The petrol model currently delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.3 kmpl (manual) and 19.6 kmpl (AMT).

Current Pricing and Positioning

The petrol-powered Nissan Gravite is priced between Rs 5.65 lakh and Rs 8.94 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a sub-4-metre 7-seater MPV, it remains one of the few affordable three-row options in the segment.

The model is based on the CMF-A+ platform shared with the Renault Triber but features Nissan-specific design elements such as a gloss-black V-motion grille, revised LED lighting signatures, and unique exterior detailing.

Standard safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors, along with a practical 5+2 seating layout aimed at family buyers.

What This Means for Buyers

The introduction of the Nissan Gravite in CNG is expected to strengthen its appeal in markets where lower running costs are a priority. The twin-cylinder layout, in particular, addresses one of the main limitations of CNG MPVs by preserving cargo usability even with all seats in place.

With rising fuel prices and growing demand for alternative fuel options, the upcoming Nissan Gravite in CNG variant could make the Gravite a more competitive choice in the budget family vehicle segment.

Nissan has not announced an exact launch date for the CNG version yet, but the company has indicated that it will be introduced soon following the initial petrol-only rollout.

Note: CNG variant details are based on manufacturer indications and may change at launch. Availability, pricing, and specifications will vary by dealership and region.
