Volkswagen has introduced the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line in India at an introductory price of Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model becomes the brand’s flagship SUV in the country and marks Volkswagen’s return to the premium three-row SUV segment. Unlike the Tiguan R-Line that is imported, the Tayron is locally assembled at the company’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra.
Positioned as a larger, three-row alternative to the Tiguan, the Tayron is aimed at buyers looking for additional practicality without moving away from the brand’s performance-oriented SUV lineup.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Powertrain & Performance

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol TSI engine producing 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and power is sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s AWD system.
Volkswagen claims the SUV can accelerate from 0–100 kmph in 7.3 seconds, with a top speed of 224 kmph. The same powertrain is also shared with the Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq.
Larger Size, Three-Row Layout
Built on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron features a wheelbase that is 109 mm longer than the Tiguan, allowing space for a third row of seats. Key dimensions include:
| Length | 4,792 mm |
| Width | 1,866 mm |
| Height | 1,665 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,789 mm |
| Boot space | 345 litres |
The exterior design closely resembles the Tiguan R-Line but gets updated Matrix LED headlights, a full-width light bar, revised tail-lamps and illuminated Volkswagen badges. The SUV rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with gloss-black body cladding and R-Line styling elements.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Interior & Features

The cabin layout is largely similar to the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, with a silver trim running across the dashboard. The feature list includes a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery and adjustable headrests for all rows.
Other key features include:
- Three-zone climate control
- Panoramic sunroof
- Wireless phone charging
- 12-way powered front seats with memory, ventilation and massage
- 30-colour ambient lighting
- 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
- Powered tailgate
On the safety front, the Tayron R-Line comes equipped with nine airbags, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring and a Level 2 ADAS suite, along with hill-start and hill-hold assist.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Pricing & Market Position

Despite offering an additional row of seating, the Tayron is priced only slightly above the Tiguan R-Line. In the Indian market, it competes with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Majestor.
For Indian buyers, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line offers a combination of local assembly, premium features and AWD performance in the three-row SUV space, which currently has limited options.
With its introductory pricing and expanded practicality, the Tayron R-Line strengthens Volkswagen’s presence in the premium SUV segment while offering a new flagship option for customers seeking a larger family-oriented vehicle.
