It doesn’t appear to differ significantly from the regular Seltos, but some significant changes related to its hybrid setup have been noticed.
The Seltos Hybrid is expected to debut in global markets by the end of this year. Its India debut could be around 2027. If Kia brings it to India with a strong hybrid powertrain, the Seltos will compete in a rapidly growing segment of hybrid SUVs.

No major design changes, but the hybrid will have a distinct identity

The overall design of the Kia Seltos Hybrid will remain very close to the new-generation Seltos. The testing vehicle shows no major changes to the front and rear profiles. This means Kia may position the hybrid version alongside the existing Seltos styling rather than giving it a completely different design.
However, the test vehicle shows a new alloy wheel design. Hybrid badging is also visible, which will help distinguish it from the regular petrol and diesel Seltos. Other exterior elements are expected to remain largely the same as the standard Seltos.
This approach is also practical, as Kia won’t need to change the entire bodywork for the hybrid version. The company can focus more on the powertrain and technology, while the SUV’s familiar design will also appeal to existing Seltos buyers.
Global Model Will Get a 1.6-Litre Hybrid Powertrain
In international markets, the Kia Seltos Hybrid is expected to be offered with a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol-hybrid powertrain. This setup will combine a petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.5kWh lithium-ion battery.
In global specifications, this setup can generate approximately 141 PS of power and 265 Nm of torque. Power transmission is expected to be via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
This powertrain’s primary focus will be on improved efficiency and a smooth driving experience rather than outright performance. The hybrid system could help reduce fuel consumption by providing electric assistance during low-speed city driving.
The Seltos Hybrid could feature e-AWD

An interesting highlight of the upcoming Seltos Hybrid could be its e-AWD system. A traditional AWD setup uses a mechanical connection between the front and rear wheels, but e-AWD drives the rear wheels via an electric motor.
This allows the system to be packaged in a relatively flexible manner, allowing electric assistance to be provided to the rear wheels as needed.
While it is not yet confirmed whether the India-spec Seltos Hybrid will feature e-AWD, Kia may bring it to India with a front-wheel-drive configuration, while an e-AWD option may be available in some markets.

A Different 1.5-Liter Strong Hybrid Engine May Be Available in India
The biggest change for the Indian market could be the powertrain. According to reports, Kia may introduce the Seltos Hybrid in India with a new 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol-based strong hybrid system.
This means that the hybrid setup of the India-spec model may be different from the global 1.6-liter T-GDi hybrid. Similar hybrid technology is also expected to be used in the next-generation Hyundai Creta in the future.
At present, Kia has not officially confirmed the engine, power output, or battery specifications of the India-spec Seltos Hybrid. Therefore, more clarity on these details is expected closer to launch.
These Special Features May Be Available in the Hybrid Version
The Seltos Hybrid is expected to carry forward many premium features from the regular Seltos. Additionally, some additional functions related to the hybrid powertrain may also be seen.
These could include features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0, and Stay Mode. A front-mounted speaker could also be provided to signal the vehicle’s presence to pedestrians while in pure EV mode.
The SUV is also expected to feature features like Type-C charging ports, sporty seats, physical climate controls, cruise control, and a large 30-inch Trinity display. ADAS technology may also be part of the Seltos Hybrid’s equipment list.
When will the Kia Seltos Hybrid launch in India?

The Kia Seltos Hybrid is expected to launch in India in 2027. The company could place it in the lineup alongside the existing petrol and diesel Seltos, offering customers multiple powertrain options in a single SUV.
The hybrid version could be positioned above the regular petrol and diesel models, although its exact pricing is not yet known.
Demand for strong hybrid SUVs is gradually increasing in India. Consequently, the Seltos Hybrid could become an important product for Kia to attract fuel-efficient SUV buyers.

Which SUVs will it compete with?
Upon launch in India, the Kia Seltos Hybrid will primarily compete with strong hybrid SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
The upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid and next-generation Hyundai Creta Hybrid could also be in future competition. The Seltos Hybrid’s competition with the Creta Hybrid will be particularly interesting, as both will be closely related products from the Hyundai-Kia group.
Auto India Daily Says
The Kia Seltos Hybrid Spotted, indicating that development work on the electrified Seltos has progressed.
Technologies like the 1.6-liter hybrid setup and e-AWD in the global model are interesting, but the biggest question for Indian buyers will be its proposed 1.5-liter strong hybrid powertrain.
If Kia launches it with competitive pricing, strong fuel efficiency, and premium features from the existing Seltos, the Seltos Hybrid could become an important option in the hybrid SUV segment in 2027.
However, official confirmation of the India-spec engine, battery, drivetrain, pricing, and final feature list will still be awaited.
Disclaimer: The above India launch, powertrain, and feature-related information is based on available reports and test vehicle observations. Final specifications, features, pricing, and launch timeline will only be confirmed after Kia’s official announcement.
