KTM has unveiled the 990 RC R Track, a dedicated track-only version of its new-generation supersport motorcycle. Designed exclusively for circuit use, the new model removes road-legal equipment and introduces several hardware upgrades aimed at improving lap-time performance.

The KTM 990 RC R Track is not street-legal and will begin arriving at international dealerships from April 2026.

Built Exclusively For The Racetrack

The Track variant has been developed as a stripped-down version of the standard 990 RC R, which was revealed last year. To reduce weight and focus purely on performance, KTM has removed road equipment such as:

  • Headlights and indicators
  • Mirrors
  • Side stand

The result is a more focused machine intended for track-day riders and racing enthusiasts.

KTM says the motorcycle is both lighter and more powerful than the standard version.

More Power From 947cc LC8c Engine

The KTM 990 RC R Track is powered by a 947cc parallel-twin LC8c engine producing:

  • 135hp
  • 105Nm of torque

This marks a slight increase over the standard model’s 130hp and 103Nm output.

The engine is paired with a race-oriented gearbox featuring a longer first gear and a shorter sixth gear for improved track performance. KTM has also equipped the bike with an Akrapovic Evolution Line exhaust, which weighs just 3kg and contributes to overall weight reduction.

Track-Spec Chassis, Tyres & Brakes

The motorcycle comes equipped with components designed specifically for circuit riding. Key hardware highlights include:

  • Fully adjustable WP APEX suspension at the front and rear
  • Michelin Power Slick tyres
  • Brembo Hypure brake calipers
  • 320mm front and 240mm rear discs

The braking system is tuned purely for track use and does not feature ABS intervention, reflecting the model’s race-focused intent.

KTM has also reduced overall weight by 2kg through a more compact electronics package.

Advanced Electronics And Rider Controls

Despite its stripped-down nature, the 990 RC R Track features a comprehensive electronics suite. Riders get three customisable Track modes that allow adjustment of:

  • Throttle response
  • Traction control
  • Wheel slip
  • Anti-wheelie
  • Launch control
  • Engine braking

Additional features include:

  • Bi-directional quickshifter
  • Pit limiter
  • 4.2-inch full-colour TFT display

MotoGP-Inspired Aerodynamics

KTM states that the bike’s aerodynamic package is influenced by its RC16 MotoGP machine. The design includes a slightly taller windscreen for improved airflow management at high speeds.

The motorcycle also comes with a wet-weather tail-light and a paddock stand supplied as standard for track-day convenience.

What It Means For Riders

The KTM 990 RC R Track is aimed at experienced riders looking for a ready-to-race platform without the compromises required for road use. With its dedicated hardware and adjustable electronics, the model is positioned as a serious option for track days and amateur racing.

As a track-only machine, it will not be road-legal in India or other markets.

Conclusion

The KTM 990 RC R Track expands the brand’s performance lineup with a purpose-built circuit machine featuring higher power, reduced weight and race-focused hardware.

With global deliveries scheduled to begin in April 2026, the model targets riders seeking a factory-developed track package rather than a road-going supersport.
