Hyundai’s next-generation Bayon has been spotted testing in Europe, revealing a much more SUV-like design. The new model is expected to grow in size and could also get hybrid technology.
Hyundai is working on a completely new-generation 2027 Hyundai Bayon, and the upcoming SUV has once again been spotted testing on European roads.
The latest test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, but its larger proportions and more upright shape give away some important details about what is changing.

Unlike the outgoing Bayon, which has a crossover-inspired appearance, the new-generation model appears to be moving towards a more conventional SUV design.
The new Hyundai Bayon is also expected to grow in dimensions, potentially creating more space between it and the Venue while positioning it below the next-generation Creta.
The new model is expected to arrive in India around the festive season, although the exact launch timeline and specifications are yet to be officially confirmed.

2027 Hyundai Bayon Gets a More Upright Design

The biggest change visible in the spy shots is the overall shape of the SUV.
The 2027 Hyundai Bayon appears noticeably boxier than the current model, with a flatter roofline, a more upright front section and a stronger SUV stance. The front-end design is largely hidden under camouflage, but the test vehicle appears to feature split headlamps with Hyundai’s signature LED daytime running light treatment.
The spy shots also reveal front parking sensors and a radar unit mounted low on the bumper. This suggests that the new Bayon could offer advanced driver assistance features, potentially including Level 2 ADAS.
Other visible details include electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, a camera module for a 360-degree camera system, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna.
At the rear, the SUV appears to get LED tail-lamps.
Bigger Than the Current Bayon
The current Hyundai Bayon sold in Europe measures around 4.18 metres in length. The next-generation model is expected to grow to approximately 4.2-4.3 metres.
That increase could make the new Bayon significantly more practical, particularly in terms of cabin space and boot capacity.
Interestingly, the larger dimensions could also help Hyundai position the Bayon more comfortably between the Venue and Creta. The next-generation Creta is itself expected to become larger, leaving enough room for Hyundai to introduce the Bayon as a distinct model in the line-up.
Hybrid Powertrain Could Be Introduced
One of the more interesting changes could be under the bonnet.
According to reports cited in the source material, the new Bayon is expected to continue with petrol engines, potentially paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
More importantly, Hyundai could also introduce a self-charging hybrid (HEV) version of the Bayon.
If introduced, the hybrid variant would give the SUV a stronger focus on fuel efficiency and could help it compete with hybrid-powered models in international markets, including the Toyota Yaris Cross.
However, Hyundai has not officially confirmed the complete powertrain lineup for the new Bayon yet.
India-Spec Hyundai Bayon Could Get a 1.5-Litre Petrol Engine

For India, the 2027 Hyundai Bayon is expected to use Hyundai’s familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
The engine currently produces:
| Specification | Expected Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5-litre petrol |
| Cylinders | 4 |
| Power | 115 PS |
| Torque | 143.8 Nm |
| Fuel Type | Petrol |
| CNG | Expected |
Interestingly, the India-spec Bayon is also reported to become Hyundai’s first model above four metres to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain.
The CNG tank is expected to be positioned underneath the vehicle, although Hyundai is yet to officially confirm these details.

Cabin Could Get Twin 12.3-Inch Screens
The cabin of the new Bayon is expected to receive a major technology upgrade as well.
The SUV could feature a large curved dual-screen setup consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also expected.
Other possible features include ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, multi-colour ambient lighting, an electrically adjustable sunroof, connected-car technology and a premium audio system.
The exact equipment list will depend on the variant and market.
Safety Features Could Include 360-Degree Camera and ADAS

The new Hyundai Bayon is expected to get a strong safety package.
Potential equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), a 360-degree surround-view camera and three-point seat belts.
The radar hardware spotted on the test vehicle also suggests that the SUV could offer an advanced driver assistance system with Level 2 functionality.
Hyundai is yet to reveal the complete safety specification.
Who Will the New Hyundai Bayon Rival?
With its expected increase in size, the 2027 Hyundai Bayon could occupy an interesting position in India’s SUV market.
The model is expected to sit below the next-generation Creta while offering more space and a more SUV-focused design than the outgoing Bayon.
In India, it could potentially compete with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Tata Curvv, along with other SUVs positioned around the same price and size bracket.
For international markets, the Toyota Yaris Cross is expected to remain one of its key rivals.
2027 Hyundai Bayon: What We Know So Far
The latest spy shots suggest that Hyundai is giving the Bayon a significant makeover rather than simply carrying over the existing crossover design.
A larger body, more upright proportions, new lighting elements, advanced safety technology and the possibility of hybrid powertrains could make the 2027 Hyundai Bayon a much more substantial SUV.
For India, the expected 1.5-litre petrol engine and factory-fitted CNG option could make the model particularly interesting. However, Hyundai is yet to officially confirm the India-spec engine lineup, pricing and launch date.
More details are expected to emerge as testing progresses and Hyundai moves closer to the model’s market debut.
