Upcoming Hyundai EVs in India: Hyundai Motor India is preparing to strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio with two new launches over the next year. The company has confirmed that an updated version of its flagship Ioniq 5 will arrive in the second quarter of 2026, while a new compact electric SUV is also under development for the mass market.
The move comes as Hyundai looks to expand its presence in India’s growing EV segment, where demand is gradually shifting toward more accessible and practical options.

2 Upcoming Hyundai EVs in India
1. Ioniq 5 Facelift to Get Bigger Battery

The Ioniq 5, which debuted in India in January 2023, is set to receive a mid-cycle update in line with global markets. Exterior changes are expected to be limited to minor styling revisions, including redesigned bumpers, updated alloy wheels and subtle front-end tweaks.
Inside the cabin, the facelift will introduce a new steering wheel and additional physical buttons to improve usability.
The most significant upgrade will be mechanical. The updated model will feature a larger 84kWh battery pack, replacing the current 72.6kWh unit. Internationally, this battery is offered with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, though the India-spec version is likely to continue with a rear-wheel-drive layout.
With the new battery, the updated Ioniq 5 is expected to deliver a WLTP-certified driving range of around 570km on a single charge.
2. New Compact EV for the Mass Market

In addition to the premium Ioniq 5 update, Hyundai is developing a new compact electric SUV aimed at the high-volume segment. Internally codenamed HE1i, the model is expected to launch by late 2026 or early 2027.
The upcoming EV will be positioned below the Creta Electric and will compete with models such as the Tata Punch EV and Mahindra’s compact electric offerings.
Unlike some of Hyundai’s global EVs, this compact SUV is being designed and engineered specifically for Indian conditions and customer preferences. It will be based on the Inster EV sold in select international markets and is expected to use a localized version of Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) architecture.
The model is likely to be offered with two battery pack options and feature equipment such as Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and over-the-air (OTA) software update capability via a connected infotainment system.
What This Means for Buyers
Upcoming Hyundai EVs in India indicate a two-pronged strategy for the Indian EV market. While the Ioniq 5 facelift will strengthen the brand’s presence in the premium space with improved range and updated features, the compact electric SUV is aimed at expanding volumes by targeting more price-sensitive buyers.
The introduction of a locally engineered compact EV could be particularly significant, as affordability and practicality remain key factors influencing EV adoption in India.
With these additions, Hyundai is expected to broaden its electric lineup across multiple price segments and improve its competitiveness against domestic manufacturers that currently dominate the entry-level EV space.
The planned launches signal Hyundai’s intent to scale its EV business in India by balancing premium technology offerings with products designed for higher volumes and local market requirements.
