Toyota has officially unveiled the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV, marking a major shift for the popular SUV nameplate as it transitions from combustion engines to a fully electric powertrain. The three-row electric SUV will go on sale in the United States in late 2026, becoming Toyota’s first battery-electric three-row model for that market.
Production will take place at Toyota’s Kentucky facility, while battery components will be sourced from the company’s new plant in North Carolina.

Performance figures differ depending on the configuration. Front-wheel-drive versions produce 221 hp and 268 Nm of torque. More powerful all-wheel-drive variants, especially those paired with the larger battery, deliver up to 338 hp and 438 Nm, offering stronger acceleration typical of high-output electric SUVs.
Practical Three-Row Cabin
The 2027 Toyota Highlander EV is designed as a family-focused SUV with seating for up to seven passengers. With the third row folded flat, cargo capacity expands to over 1,274 litres, improving practicality for long trips and daily use.
Inside, the dashboard features a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Heated front seats are standard, while higher trims add ventilated seats, second-row heating and a panoramic glass roof.
