Rugged Exterior Design of the Mahindra Vision S

Spy images reveal the Vision S’s front end to be quite upright and boxy. Despite the heavy camouflage, its tall stance, squared-off bonnet, and vertically arranged grille elements are visible.
The latest test mule still shows temporary round headlamp units. Previously revealed prototypes have featured inverted-L-shaped LED headlamps similar to the concept. The final lighting setup in the production model may be closer to the concept, but official confirmation is still pending.
The SUV’s side profile features flush door handles, a large glass area, and large alloy wheels. The boxy body and upright proportions could give it a distinct visual identity from other sub-4-meter SUVs.
A tailgate-mounted spare wheel will be available in the rear

The rear of the Vision S is also clearly visible in the latest spy shots. The SUV features a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, further strengthening its traditional SUV character.
The rear profile is quite upright, and vertically positioned tail-lamp elements are visible beneath the camouflage. The flat rear windscreen and squared-off body design, along with the spare wheel, give it a rugged look.
This setup also matches the concept’s overall SUV-focused design. Earlier spy shots have also revealed a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and a boxy rear profile.
Mahindra Vision S Interior in such detail for the first time

The biggest highlight of this latest test mule is its interior. The spy images largely reveal the dashboard layout.
Two horizontal screens are visible on the dashboard, placed alongside vertically positioned AC vents. These screens are expected to be approximately 10.25-inch units in the production version, although the exact screen size has not yet been officially confirmed.
The concept also featured a dual-screen setup, and the production model test mule appears to follow the same basic layout.

BE 6-like Steering Wheel Seen
The test vehicle appears to have a temporary steering wheel borrowed from other Mahindra models. In the spy shots, this steering wheel appears to be similar to the BE 6.
However, the production model is expected to have a dedicated steering wheel, as Mahindra showcased a different steering design in the concept.
The center console below the dashboard also features physical controls, rotary-style controls, and a gear selector.
What’s visible in the Center Console?
The center console is clearly visible in the latest interior image. Here, elements such as:
- Gear selector
- Electronic parking brake
- Physical control buttons
- Cup-holder area
- Storage space
- Start/Stop control area
Features like a wireless charging pad are expected in the production version, but the final equipment list has not yet been revealed.
Mahindra Vision S to be built on the NU_IQ Platform

The Vision S is based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ monocoque platform. The company developed this architecture as a multi-energy platform.
According to Mahindra, the NU_IQ architecture can support petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains. The platform is also designed for FWD and AWD layouts.
However, official confirmation of the powertrains the Vision S production model will offer initially is still pending.
Reports suggest petrol and diesel options, while hybrid and electric versions are also possible in the future using this architecture.
When will the Mahindra Vision S launch?
The Mahindra Vision S production model is expected to launch in 2027. Autocar India also lists it for a 2027 launch, while Mahindra has announced launches for the NU_IQ-based SUV family starting in 2027.
The SUV’s exact launch date, production name, and pricing details are not yet known.
It is expected to be positioned in the sub-4-meter SUV segment. Mahindra may position it above the XUV 3XO, while a connection to the Scorpio family is also being discussed due to its rugged design. However, the name ‘Scorpio Sport’ has not yet been officially confirmed.
Which SUVs will it compete with?
Upon launch, the Vision S could compete with existing models in the sub-4-metre SUV segment in India. Potential rivals include:
| SUV | Segment |
|---|---|
| Tata Nexon | Sub-4m SUV |
| Hyundai Venue | Sub-4m SUV |
| Maruti Suzuki Brezza | Sub-4m SUV |
| Kia Sonet | Sub-4m SUV |
| Skoda Kylaq | Sub-4m SUV |
| Mahindra XUV 3XO | Sub-4m SUV |
The Vision S’s boxy design, tall stance, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel could give it a distinct character in this segment.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The latest spy shots clearly indicate that the Mahindra Vision S has moved beyond the concept stage and is very close to production development. The boxy proportions and rear-mounted spare wheel on the exterior give it a traditional SUV character, while the dual screens and modern center console on the interior indicate an attempt to make it more contemporary.
Most interesting is its NU_IQ multi-energy platform, as this architecture could support different powertrain options in the future. However, many key details, such as the engine, battery, gearbox, exact dimensions, features, and final name, are still awaiting official confirmation from Mahindra.
The Vision S, expected in 2027, could add a new and more rugged option to Mahindra’s sub-4m SUV portfolio.
