The Mahindra Thar 3-door is set for another major update. The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift has been undergoing testing for a long time and is now expected to launch on September 22, 2026.
Test mules have already revealed several new design elements, most notably a front design inspired by the Thar Roxx and new lighting.

The new Thar is being seen as a facelift rather than a completely new generation model. Therefore, it is expected to retain the current SUV’s basic platform and powertrain, while the design and features may see significant changes.
Let’s explore five major changes that could be seen in the 2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift.

1. A new front grille similar to the Thar Roxx

The biggest visual change in the new Mahindra Thar Facelift is expected to be its front profile. Test mules have shown the SUV sporting a new grille inspired by the Thar Roxx.
The new grille is expected to be more prominent than the current model and is expected to feature a stacked/multi-slot design. The front bumper may also see revisions.
According to Autocar India, the new Mahindra Thar Facelift is expected to feature changes such as a Thar Roxx-inspired grille, C-shaped LED signatures, and redesigned bumpers.
2. LED Projector Headlamps and New C-Shaped DRLs
The lighting setup could also be a major highlight of the new Thar. Compared to the current model, the facelift is expected to feature LED projector headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs.
The rear profile may also feature a new LED tail-lamp signature. Changes are also likely to be made to the alloy wheel design. These updates could give the Thar a more modern look and bring it closer to the Thar Roxx family.
3. More Premium Features in the Cabin

The Thar has already received a major interior and technology update in 2025. Mahindra added features like a 26.03 cm (10.25-inch) HD infotainment screen, a new dashboard theme, a new steering wheel, rear AC vents, and a rear camera in that update.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be correct to call the 10.25-inch screen a new feature in the 2026 facelift. Instead, Mahindra may now add some missing convenience features to the cabin.
These could include features like a wireless phone charger, a 360-degree camera, powered seats, and ventilated front seats. However, the company hasn’t officially confirmed all of these yet.

4. Upgrades to Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The new Mahindra Thar Facelift is also expected to include some additions to safety technology. However, claims like Level 2 ADAS and six airbags haven’t been officially confirmed yet, so they shouldn’t be written off as confirmed features.
If Mahindra adds driver-assistance technology to this facelift, it could make the Thar a more technology-focused SUV. However, this will only be confirmed after the exact safety equipment and variant-wise availability are revealed at launch.
For now, it’s best to view this as an expected upgrade.
5. Ventilated Seats and Improved Comfort

The Thar’s use is no longer limited to hardcore off-roading. With the arrival of the Thar Roxx, the 3-door Thar is expected to offer more daily-use and comfort features.
For this reason, features like ventilated front seats and automatic climate control are being discussed. These additions, along with wireless charging and a 360-degree camera, could make the Thar’s cabin more premium. However, Mahindra has not yet officially confirmed these features.
What will change in the engine and 4×4?
Major mechanical changes are not expected at this time. The current Thar offers three engine options:
| Engine | Power | Expected Setup |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5L Diesel | 119hp | RWD, Manual |
| 2.0L Turbo Petrol | 152hp | RWD/4WD |
| 2.2L Diesel | 132hp | 4WD |
The 2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift is expected to carry forward the same powertrain options. The 2.0-liter petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines are expected to continue with the option of an automatic gearbox.
Mahindra Thar Facelift Launch Date and Expected Price
The launch date for the new Mahindra Thar facelift is reported to be September 22, 2026. However, some sources are listing this as an expected launch date.
The current Thar’s ex-showroom price ranges from approximately Rs. 10.32 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh. Given the design and feature upgrades in the facelift, its price may be slightly higher than the current model. Autocar India has estimated the expected range to be around Rs. 11 lakh to Rs. 18.50 lakh.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The 2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift is expected to focus on design and everyday usability rather than engine changes. A Thar Roxx-inspired front design, new LED lighting, and potential comfort features could make the 3-door Thar more modern.
However, ADAS, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and other new features shouldn’t be considered confirmed just yet. The full picture will only become clear after Mahindra’s official announcement on September 22nd.
