According to reports, the update applies to Tesla Model Y L vehicles purchased on or after October 1, 2026. The electric SUV continues to be priced at Rs. 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). There are no reported changes to its exterior design or interior features, making this a performance-focused update rather than a new model launch.

Tesla Model Y L Acceleration Improves to 4.5 Seconds

The latest upgrade reduces the Model Y L’s claimed 0-100kph acceleration time from 5 seconds to 4.5 seconds. This puts the large electric crossover firmly in performance-oriented territory, particularly considering its three-row, six-seat layout.

The Model Y L uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Tesla has not officially disclosed the complete powertrain output figures for the India-spec model. However, the system is estimated to produce around 514hp and 590Nm of torque.

The SUV has a claimed top speed of 201kph. These estimated output figures should be treated separately from Tesla’s officially published specifications, as the company has not confirmed the exact combined power and torque figures.

Battery, Range and Charging Specifications Remain Unchanged

Despite the acceleration improvement, the Tesla Model Y L retains its claimed WLTP range of 681km. The real-world distance covered on a full charge will depend on factors such as driving speed, traffic, weather, road conditions and driving style.

The SUV is reported to use an estimated 88kWh NMC battery pack. Tesla has not officially confirmed the battery capacity in the specifications provided for this update.

Charging capability also remains unchanged. The Model Y L supports DC fast charging at up to 250kW and AC charging at up to 11kW. According to Tesla, using a compatible Supercharger can add up to 288km of range in 15 minutes under its stated testing conditions. Actual charging performance will vary depending on battery temperature, state of charge and the charging equipment used.

The Tesla Model Y L continues to cost Rs. 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. It offers three rows of seating for up to six occupants, making it a more spacious alternative to conventional five-seat electric SUVs.

The cabin includes a 16-inch central touchscreen and an 8-inch second-row touchscreen. The second-row captain seats offer features such as heating, ventilation and powered armrests, while the third row is designed to accommodate additional passengers.

Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof, connected-car functions, a 19-speaker audio system and an adaptive suspension setup with electronic damping. The extended wheelbase and longer body are intended to provide additional passenger space compared with the standard Model Y.

No new exterior or cabin changes have been reported as part of the acceleration update.

Tesla Model Y L Rivals in India

The Tesla Model Y L competes in India’s premium electric SUV segment, where the BMW iX1 LWB and BYD Sealion 7 are among its alternatives. Buyers considering these models will need to compare not just acceleration, but also cabin space, charging access, equipment, ownership support and practical driving range.

The Model Y L’s key appeal is its combination of six-seat practicality, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a claimed 681km WLTP range. The improved acceleration adds another performance advantage without an announced increase in price.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The Tesla Model Y L’s reported acceleration boost makes an already quick electric SUV even more appealing to buyers who want performance alongside three-row seating. Keeping the price and claimed range unchanged also means the update does not come with an announced cost penalty.

However, buyers should confirm the revised acceleration specification for their particular vehicle before placing an order or taking delivery. Tesla’s India website continues to list a 5-second 0-100kph time, while recent reports quote 4.5 seconds for eligible vehicles. This difference should be clarified with Tesla before treating the revised figure as applicable to every Model Y L in India.
