New Kawasaki Z300 Launched at Rs. 3.24 Lakh, Gets 296cc Twin-Cylinder Engine

Kawasaki India has launched its entry-level streetfighter, the New Kawasaki Z300, priced at Rs. 3.24 lakh (ex-showroom). This motorcycle is the most affordable model in the company’s Z-series lineup and is based on the Ninja 300’s platform.

Compared to a fully faired sports bike, the Z300 has been introduced with a naked streetfighter design, upright riding position, and exposed mechanical styling.

The entry of the Z300 gives Kawasaki a new option in the Indian performance motorcycle market, where models like the KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310 are already present. In contrast to these rivals, Kawasaki highlights its 296cc parallel-twin engine.

The motorcycle is available in a single Standard variant, while buyers get two color options: Candy Lime Green/Ebony and Metallic Carbon Gray/Ebony.

New Kawasaki Z300 Price in India and Positioning

The New Kawasaki Z300 has no introductory positioning, but has announced an ex-showroom price of Rs. 3.24 lakh. This is approximately Rs. 10,000 cheaper than the Ninja 300, which has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 3.34 lakh. Both motorcycles share an engine and platform, but their riding character is different.

The Ninja 300 targets riders who prefer a full fairing and sporty styling. In contrast, the Z300 features naked bodywork and a wide, single-piece handlebar. This provides a relatively upright posture for city riding, while the exposed engine and muscular tank design give it a streetfighter look.

New Kawasaki Z300 Design and Features

In terms of design, the New Kawasaki Z300 draws inspiration from Kawasaki’s larger Z-series motorcycles. Its front section features an aggressive headlamp design, sculpted tank extensions, and exposed mechanical elements. The overall styling is reminiscent of larger streetfighters like the Z900, but the Z300’s compact platform places it in the entry-level performance category.

The instrument console features a reverse LCD display. It displays speed, tachometer, fuel level, coolant temperature, clock, odometer, twin trip meters, and service-related information. This display provides useful riding information, but doesn’t offer the same visual experience as a premium TFT screen.

The Z300 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. Suspension setup includes a 37mm telescopic fork at the front and a Uni-Trak monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 290mm petal disc at the front and a 220mm petal disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard for safety.

Engine and Performance: 296cc Parallel-Twin

The New Kawasaki Z300 is powered by a 296cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin petrol engine. According to company-published figures, this engine produces maximum power of 39.4bhp at 11,000rpm and peak torque of 26.3Nm at 10,000rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, while a slip-and-assist clutch is also part of the standard equipment. Kawasaki’s dual-throttle valve technology is also included in this package. Peak power delivered at high engine speeds means riders will have to make good use of the rev range to appreciate its performance character.

The parallel-twin configuration sets the Z300 apart from many of its rivals. The character and refinement of the twin-cylinder engine compared to single-cylinder motorcycles could be an attraction for buyers. However, final judgment of actual acceleration, low-speed response, and riding comfort will depend on real-world riding experience.

Dimensions, Weight, and Practicality

The New Kawasaki Z300 seat height is 785mm, while the motorcycle’s kerb weight is 175kg. It features a 17-liter fuel tank and a ground clearance of 140mm. These specifications are relevant for daily use and weekend rides, especially for riders who want to use a performance-oriented motorcycle for regular commuting.

The wide handlebar and upright seating posture are designed to provide a different experience from the Ninja 300’s comparatively committed riding position. However, the 175kg weight and performance-oriented engine will need to be evaluated in traffic, parking, and slow-speed maneuvers. Buyers should check seat reach, handlebar comfort, and low-speed balance during a test ride.

New Kawasaki Z300 vs KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310

The New Kawasaki Z300 can be compared directly to the KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310. Both rivals use single-cylinder engine configurations, while the Z300 comes with a twin-cylinder setup.

The Z300’s key attraction is its parallel-twin engine, Kawasaki branding, and naked streetfighter design. On the other hand, simply looking at cylinder count or peak power won’t suffice when comparing rivals. Price, electronic features, braking performance, handling, service costs, and ownership experience will also play an important role in the decision.

Priced at Rs. 3.24 lakh, the Z300 will have to convince buyers willing to spend a premium for a performance motorcycle. For riders with a twin-cylinder engine preference, it could be an interesting alternative, but the final assessment of value-for-money should be made after considering equipment and on-road ownership costs.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The New Kawasaki Z300 brings a distinct proposition to the Indian market. It offers the Ninja 300’s familiar 296cc parallel-twin engine in a naked streetfighter format, along with upright ergonomics and standard dual-channel ABS.

Rs. A price of Rs. 3.24 lakh (ex-showroom) doesn’t make it a budget-focused option, especially when alternatives like the KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310 are available.

But if you want a twin-cylinder engine, Kawasaki’s Z-series styling, and a more upright riding position compared to a faired sports bike, the Z300 is worth shortlisting. Do take a test ride and check the on-road price of your City before making a final decision.
