LANXESS HINCOL MOU: What is the main objective of the collaboration?
The objective of LANXESS and HINCOL is to evaluate solutions that can help make the road construction process more efficient. The collaboration will focus on areas such as pavement performance, production efficiency, product consistency, operational safety, and sustainability.
The quality of bitumen and asphalt is important in road construction because it is linked to the performance and durability of the road surface. Modified bitumen and asphalt additives can be used to improve the properties of construction materials. Through this partnership, the companies will evaluate how useful their technologies may be in light of the requirements of the Indian market.
Currently, this MoU establishes a framework for evaluation and cooperation. The press release does not announce a nationwide rollout, confirmed commercial deployment, or specific road project.
Addipave CR 36 Technology to be Evaluated

An important part of the collaboration is LANXESS’s Addipave CR 36 technology, an advanced cross-linking technology for Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) applications.
The companies will conduct joint laboratory testing and commercial-scale evaluation of this product. According to LANXESS, the objective of the technology is to improve PMB production efficiency, enhance product consistency and quality, strengthen operational safety, and support the performance of modified bitumen formulations.
LANXESS will provide product, technical expertise, and trial support in this process. HINCOL will contribute its testing facilities, operational support, and performance assessment under local conditions.
Testing in Indian conditions will be crucial, as road construction materials need to be evaluated against different operating environments and project requirements. The results of these trials can help companies understand the practical applicability of the technology.

Focus on Asphalt Production Temperatures with Addipave WM 23
Another major area of the partnership is Addipave WM 23, LANXESS’s warm mix asphalt additive technology.
Through this technology, the companies will evaluate the possibilities for reducing asphalt production and paving temperatures, while also aiming to maintain road performance standards. The potential benefit of warm mix asphalt technologies could be reduced energy consumption and emissions in the production process.
According to a press release, potential benefits of the proposed evaluation include lower energy consumption, reduced emissions, improved workplace conditions, and enhanced sustainability in the paving process. However, testing and performance assessment will be crucial to establish the actual extent of these benefits.
If trials deliver the expected results, such technologies could provide an additional option for the Indian road construction industry. However, specific figures for commercial impact or measurable emission reduction have not yet been announced.
What expertise will LANXESS and HINCOL bring?
LANXESS is a specialty chemicals company that develops, manufactures, and markets chemical intermediates, additives, and consumer protection products. The company has experience in specialty additives and formulation technologies.
HINCOL provides bitumen, modified bitumen products, and road construction solutions in India. The company’s local market knowledge, testing facilities, and operational experience are another important component of this collaboration.
Vince Patram, Global Head of Marketing, Business Unit Lubricant Additives, LANXESS, said that with HINCOL’s local market understanding, the company is looking to explore locally tailored solutions for asphalt applications in India.
LANXESS Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Business Unit Lubricant Additives, Neelanjan Banerjee, also linked the collaboration to the potential to improve road performance, operational efficiency, quality, and environmental performance.
According to HINCOL CEO and Director, Debashis Chakravarty, the two organizations’ complementary expertise can help evaluate advanced technologies and create long-term value for the Indian road construction industry.
What does this mean for Indian road infrastructure?
Balancing construction quality, operational efficiency, and sustainability with road infrastructure development in India is crucial. The MoU between LANXESS and HINCOL is relevant in the context of this broader requirement, as its focus is on evaluating the possibilities for improving road construction materials and asphalt production processes.
Addipave CR 36 trials will focus on Polymer Modified Bitumen applications, while Addipave WM 23 evaluations will center on warm mix asphalt and its potential to reduce production temperatures.
The real-world usefulness of both technologies will depend on testing results and performance in local operating conditions. Therefore, this announcement is best viewed as a technology-evaluation partnership, not a confirmed nationwide implementation.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The MoU between LANXESS and HINCOL is a relevant development for road construction technology. The actual significance of this partnership will become clear once the results of laboratory and commercial-scale evaluations are available.
If technologies meet performance, efficiency and sustainability objectives, they could open up useful possibilities for the Indian road construction sector.
