Ethanol EV Charger: India’s First Grid-Free EV Charging System Launched

To address this issue, the Ethanol EV Charger has been launched in India, which will charge electric vehicles using electricity generated from ethanol without relying on the traditional power grid.

It is being described as the world’s first ethanol-based EV charging system.

What is the Ethanol EV Charger?

This new Ethanol EV Charger combines a 150kW fast charging system and ethanol-based power generation technology. This system first generates electricity using ethanol, and then uses that electricity to charge electric cars, SUVs, buses, or other EVs.

The biggest advantage of this technology is that it does not require constant connection to the traditional power grid. Consequently, EV charging stations can be easily installed even in areas where electricity availability is limited.

Launched in Telangana

This technology was introduced during the launch of Keto Motors’ first electric commercial bus in Telangana.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy stated that the company has developed a unique system that allows electric vehicles to be charged using electricity generated from ethanol instead of conventional electricity.

According to him, this technology could be a major step towards integrating India’s rapidly growing ethanol consumption and electric mobility.

How does it work?

Typical EV charging stations draw power directly from the electricity grid, but the Ethanol EV Charger’s approach is different.

In this system, electricity is first generated using ethanol. This electricity is then supplied to a 150 kW fast charger, allowing electric vehicles to be charged faster.

Charging station will be ready in 72 hours

The biggest advantage of this technology is its installation speed.

While setting up a typical fast charging station takes considerable time due to the need for extensive power connections, transmission infrastructure, and numerous government approvals, this new Ethanol EV Charger can be operational in just 72 hours.

According to reports, this could reduce charging station installation costs and setup time by approximately 50%.

Could be a game-changer for highways and rural areas

There are still many areas in India where high-capacity power connections are not available. This is why the expansion of the EV charging network there is slow.
