More Retail Adds 150 EVs to Mid-Mile Fleet, Montra EVIATOR Drives Green Logistics Push

More Retail is accelerating its shift towards electric mobility by moving closer to a fully electric mid-mile logistics fleet.

The supermarket and hypermarket chain currently has 150 electric vehicles in its 600-vehicle mid-mile fleet, with 110 Montra Electric EVIATOR e-SCVs operating across its distribution network.

More Retail Deploys 110 Montra EVIATOR Electric Vehicles

The latest deployment takes the number of Montra Electric EVIATOR e-SCVs operating with More Retail to 110. These vehicles are being used across the retailer’s distribution network for store replenishment and hyper-local fulfilment.

According to the company, the EVIATOR fleet has already covered more than 8.8 lakh kilometres across its logistics routes. More Retail says the vehicles have demonstrated reliability in daily operations, while drivers have responded positively to their comfort, instant torque and ease of driving.

The deployment is particularly relevant for high-frequency urban logistics, where commercial vehicles regularly operate on congested city routes and make multiple delivery runs throughout the day.

EVIATOR Fleet Could Cover 22,000 Km Every Day

More Retail and Montra Electric stated that the 110 EVIATOR vehicles together can cover a minimum of around 22,000 km every day. The companies estimate that this could help reduce more than 1,750 tonnes of tailpipe CO2 emissions annually.

The move away from conventional diesel and petrol small commercial vehicles is also expected to bring operating benefits through lower energy costs, reduced maintenance requirements and regenerative or gearless braking characteristics.

For a retail business with frequent movement of goods between distribution centres and stores, these factors can have a direct impact on the overall cost and efficiency of logistics operations.

Montra EVIATOR Gets 1,707kg Payload Capacity

The Montra Electric EVIATOR is a 3.5-tonne electric small commercial vehicle designed for commercial and urban logistics applications. According to the company, it gets a 10.3-foot load deck, described as the largest in its segment, along with a payload capacity of up to 1,707kg.

This configuration makes the EVIATOR suitable for carrying retail crates and bulk supplies between distribution centres and individual outlets.

The vehicle also features connected fleet-management technology. This allows operators to monitor parameters such as battery status and driver behaviour while supporting route optimisation and fleet management.

Lower Running Costs Drive Fleet Electrification

For More Retail, the shift to electric vehicles is not only about reducing emissions. The company says lower energy costs, reduced maintenance requirements and easier operation in city traffic are among the factors supporting the transition.

The EVIATOR’s electric powertrain also provides instant torque, which can be useful for vehicles carrying heavy loads and operating on frequent stop-and-go urban routes.

More Retail’s National Transport Manager, Prasanna Hegde, said the company’s mid-mile fleet needs to maintain reliability because it plays a crucial role in keeping stores stocked. He added that the transition from ICE vehicles to Montra Electric’s EVIATOR has been smooth across its distribution network.

More Retail Targets 100% Electric Mid-Mile Fleet

The latest deployment is part of More Retail’s broader plan to eventually make its entire 600-vehicle mid-mile fleet electric. With 150 electric vehicles currently part of the fleet, the company has already started moving away from conventional ICE-powered logistics vehicles.

Montra Electric’s e-SCV division CEO, Saju Nair, said More Retail’s transition demonstrates how commercial EVs are increasingly being deployed as part of everyday logistics operations rather than being treated only as an alternative technology.

The partnership also gives Montra Electric an opportunity to expand the real-world deployment of the EVIATOR in a demanding retail logistics environment.

What This Means for India’s Commercial EV Market

The More Retail-Montra Electric partnership highlights a broader shift in India’s commercial mobility sector. While electric passenger vehicles often receive more attention, commercial fleets can potentially deliver significant emissions and operating-cost benefits because they cover high daily distances.

More Retail’s experience with more than 8.8 lakh kilometres already completed by its EVIATOR fleet provides a real-world example of electric small commercial vehicles being used for regular distribution operations.

As the retailer continues towards its 100% electric mid-mile fleet target, the deployment could also serve as a reference point for other companies looking to electrify urban and regional logistics operations.

Auto India Daily Verdict

More Retail’s move towards a fully electric mid-mile fleet is significant because the vehicles are being used for everyday commercial operations rather than limited pilot projects. With 150 electric vehicles already deployed, including 110 Montra Electric EVIATORs, the company has established a sizeable base for its longer-term electrification plan.

The reported 8.8 lakh kilometres of fleet operation and estimated 1,750-tonne annual tailpipe CO2 reduction also underline the potential impact of switching high-usage logistics vehicles to electric power.
