However, the road ahead will not be easy. The KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR are already established names among India’s affordable fully faired performance motorcycles. So, how does the new Yamaha stack up against its rivals on price, power, weight and features? Let’s compare the three.

New Yamaha R2 vs Rivals: Performance
The biggest talking point of the Yamaha R2 is its lightweight construction. The motorcycle weighs just 149kg, while its newly developed 204cc engine produces 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and assist-and-slipper clutch.
The KTM RC 200 uses a 199.5cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 25 PS and 19.2 Nm. It is slightly heavier than the Yamaha, while its focus remains firmly on aggressive performance and handling.
Meanwhile, the Hero Karizma XMR gets the largest engine of the three. Its 210cc liquid-cooled DOHC motor produces 25.5 PS and 20.4 Nm, making it the torque leader in this comparison.
On paper, therefore, the Yamaha has the highest peak power, while the Hero has the strongest torque figure.

This is where Yamaha has made a particularly interesting move.

The R2 gets Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) with three riding modes — Street, Sport and Rain — along with traction control. It also features a 5-inch full-colour TFT display.
The middle variant and R2M additionally get a bi-directional quickshifter, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts. Yamaha positions this as a segment-first feature.
The KTM RC 200, meanwhile, focuses more heavily on mechanical hardware, including WP Apex USD forks and Supermoto ABS, along with an LCD display.
The Karizma XMR gets a TFT instrument cluster, dual-channel ABS, USD forks and a 210cc engine, but its electronics package is not as extensive as the Yamaha’s.

The Hero Karizma XMR makes the most sense for buyers looking for strong value and a larger 210cc engine without spending heavily. Its 25.5 PS and 20.4 Nm output also make it a capable highway and touring motorcycle.
The KTM RC 200 remains the more focused choice for riders who want an aggressive riding position, sporty chassis setup and KTM’s sharp handling character. Its WP suspension hardware is one of its key strengths.
The Yamaha R2, however, takes a different approach. It combines a 204cc engine with a 149kg kerb weight, traction control, three riding modes, TFT instrumentation and an optional bi-directional quickshifter.
