BYD’s premium luxury brand Denza is now preparing to enter India, and one of the company’s first products will include an electric performance car that’s poised to do some serious numbers.
The Denza Z9 GT will be launched in India with an electric-only powertrain, producing up to 1,156 hp from a three-motor setup.

Denza will be positioned above BYD in India, with its products priced roughly above Rs. 80 lakh. The Denza D9 will also enter the luxury MPV segment alongside the Z9 GT. Both models will be imported into India via the CBU route.

Denza will be positioned above BYD in India
Denza was launched in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler. Mercedes-Benz later exited the partnership, and after 2022, BYD repositioned Denza within its premium luxury portfolio.
Denza’s role in India will be markedly different from BYD’s existing lineup. While BYD’s products roughly target the Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 80 lakh segment, Denza models will be positioned in the Rs. 80 lakh-plus price bracket.
The initial lineup will include the Z9 GT performance fastback and D9 luxury MPV.
Denza Z9 GT: 1,156hp Electric Powerhouse
The biggest highlight of the Z9 GT is its powertrain. The India-spec model will not offer a PHEV option; a pure-electric version will be launched here.

The Z9 GT’s kerb weight is around 2.9 tonnes, yet the claimed 0-100kph sprint is just 2.7 seconds. Top speed is up to 270kph.
600km Range and 9-Minute Charging
Along with performance, fast charging technology will also be a major highlight of the Z9 GT. The car will be equipped with a 122.5kWh Blade battery, with a claimed combined WLTP range of around 600km.
BYD’s 1,500kW Flash Charging technology can theoretically charge the battery from 10 to 97 percent in just 9 minutes. Stopping the battery at 97 percent is intended to maintain longevity.
The Z9 GT will also feature cell-to-body construction, in which the Blade battery cells become an integrated part of the vehicle structure.

The Denza Z9 GT also features Crab-Walking Capability
The Denza Z9 GT isn’t just designed for straight-line performance. The car features rear-wheel steering, which helps it maneuver in tight spaces.
This system also provides sideways crab-crawl movement capability. Powered doors, Level 2+ ADAS, and premium cabin technology reinforce its luxury positioning.
A total of five screens are provided in the cabin. Dedicated displays are also provided on both sides for camera feeds instead of rear-view mirrors.
The outer four seats in the five-seat cabin get adjustable under-thigh support, heating, cooling, and massage functions. The rear seats can also be reclined.
Denza Z9 GT India Price: Rs 1.2 Crore to Rs 1.5 Crore
The Z9 GT’s expected positioning in India will be quite premium. Its estimated price could be around Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 1.5 crore.
Its direct competition in this price bracket will be limited. The Porsche Taycan could be one of its closest comparable models, although the Z9 GT’s fastback format and three-motor setup will give it its own distinct identity.
Denza D9: Toyota Vellfire to Get New Rival
The Denza D9 electric luxury MPV will also launch in India alongside the Z9 GT. The D9 is available in EV and plug-in hybrid options in global markets, but a front-wheel-drive EV version is expected in India.
The D9 could be positioned at a price point of approximately ₹80 lakh. This would place it above the MG M9 and below the Toyota Vellfire.

The Denza D9 will feature an electric powertrain with a 103kWh Blade battery. Output is 313hp and 360Nm, with a claimed WLTP range of around 520km.
DC fast charging support is available up to 200kW.

D9 Cabin Will Offer a Luxury Lounge Experience
The D9’s cabin will clearly target chauffeur-driven luxury buyers. It will feature a 2+2+3 seating layout with second-row captain seats.
Captain seats offer power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Armrests also feature fold-out tables and extendable legrests with integrated controls.
Other premium equipment includes three-zone climate control, a Dynaudio sound system, and full leather upholstery.
The D9 also utilizes BYD’s cell-to-body technology. According to the company, this construction improves body rigidity and helps reduce weight.
The MPV also features an active body-control system, designed to reduce fore-aft pitching movement of the cabin during acceleration and braking.
How will the Denza sell in India?
BYD plans to keep the Denza clearly separate from its existing brands in India. The luxury brand will have dedicated showrooms, which will operate separately from BYD dealerships.
The network may be limited in the initial phase, with a focus on major luxury-car markets. Delhi-NCR and Mumbai are expected to be the locations where Denza’s India sales operations begin.
This strategy also makes sense for low-volume luxury products, as the Denza will focus on a premium customer experience rather than mass-market sales.
