Mahindra BE.07 Spied Testing: A heavily camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Mahindra BE.07 electric SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. The prototype sighting comes shortly after Mahindra confirmed that its next born-electric model under the BE sub-brand will arrive in 2027.

The BE.07 will become the second model in Mahindra’s BE lineup and the fourth born-electric vehicle developed on the company’s new-generation EV architecture, following the XEV 9e, XEV 9S and BE 6. Early spy images indicate that the production version will remain close to the concept’s overall proportions but will feature several practical changes for road use.

The test vehicle appears heavily camouflaged, but several design cues visible in the spy images hint at the identity of the SUV. The glasshouse design, including sharply sloping windshields at the front and rear and a prominent C-pillar, closely resembles the BE.07 concept.

However, some of the more dramatic design elements from the concept appear to have been toned down for the production model. For instance, the lighting elements on the front bumper look different, suggesting that Mahindra may be adapting the design to meet production and regulatory requirements.

The prototype also replaces the camera-based side mirrors from the concept with conventional wing mirrors, which are more practical for mass production. Additional visible details include large aero-optimised alloy wheels, flush door handles, side steps and front bumper air inlets designed to help cool the battery and electrical components.

While the rear section and cabin were not visible in the spy images, the interior is expected to carry forward some of the futuristic design elements seen in the concept version.

Likely Interior and Technology

Although the Mahindra BE.07 Spied Testing spy shots do not reveal the interior layout, the production BE.07 could adopt a dashboard-spanning triple-screen setup similar to the one seen in Mahindra’s XEV 9e and XEV 9S electric SUVs.

This large digital display configuration was previewed in the BE.07 concept and could integrate the driver’s instrument cluster, infotainment system and passenger display. Mahindra has been positioning its new EV lineup as technology-focused, so a feature-rich cabin is expected.

Platform and Technical Details

The BE.07 will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO born-electric platform, the same architecture that underpins the company’s upcoming XEV and BE electric models. This modular EV platform supports multiple battery sizes and drivetrain configurations.

According to earlier concept specifications, the BE.07 measures approximately 4,565mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,660mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,775mm. Despite its larger size compared to the BE 6, the SUV is expected to remain a five-seater model with a traditional SUV body style.

Mahindra is also expected to use the same battery pack options ranging from 59kWh to 79kWh, which are likely to be shared with other vehicles on the INGLO platform. These battery sizes could support multiple power outputs and driving range configurations.

Expected Rivals

Once launched, the BE.07 is expected to compete in the emerging mid-size electric SUV segment. Key rivals could include the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF7, both of which are positioned as premium electric SUVs in India.

The BE.07 may also help Mahindra expand its presence in the fast-growing EV market as more manufacturers introduce dedicated electric platforms and models.

Mahindra’s Strategy for the BE Lineup

Mahindra has been steadily expanding its born-electric portfolio as part of its long-term electrification strategy. During a recent quarterly earnings call, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra, indicated that the BE.07 is expected to play an important role in the company’s EV plans.

He noted that the SUV could become a significant volume contributor for Mahindra, building on the momentum expected from its existing electric models.

Launch Timeline

The BE.07 prototype sighting suggests that road testing has begun well ahead of its planned launch. The production version is expected to arrive in 2027, although Mahindra may introduce the vehicle with a different production name.

As development progresses, more details about the SUV’s design, features and performance are likely to emerge in future test sightings.

The appearance of the Mahindra BE.07 Spied Testing mule indicates that Mahindra is advancing work on its next-generation electric SUV lineup. With a launch still a few years away, the company is expected to continue refining the vehicle as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its position in India’s expanding EV market.
