New Locally Built SUV Under Development
The test mule indicates that the upcoming vehicle will be locally manufactured and is internally codenamed MG 520. Industry sources suggest the India-spec model will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in international markets, though the final name for India has not yet been confirmed.

This will be MG’s first all-new locally developed model since the launch of the Windsor in September 2024, highlighting the company’s renewed focus on expanding its India portfolio under the JSW partnership.
Hybrid and Electric Options Expected
The vehicle MG Starlight 560 Hybrid Spotted on test appears to be the plug-in hybrid variant, identifiable by its functional front grille, which is typically used for engine cooling in partially electrified models.
Globally, the plug-in hybrid setup combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 105hp with an electric motor generating 194hp. Power is sent to the front wheels, and the system is supported by a 20.5kWh battery, offering an electric-only driving range of up to 125km (CLTC cycle).
MG is also expected to introduce a pure electric version in India. Internationally, this variant uses a front-mounted motor producing 134hp and a 56.7kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 500km (CLTC). The India-spec model could receive a larger battery and higher output to suit local market expectations.
Size, Features and Positioning
The Starlight 560 is expected to be offered in five- and seven-seat configurations, allowing MG to target both family buyers and premium SUV customers.

Feature highlights are likely to include full-LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Large alloy wheels and a modern interior layout are also expected, aligning the model with competitors in the upper mid-size SUV segment.
In the electric version, the SUV could rival upcoming models such as the Tata Harrier.ev.
What This Means for Buyers
The introduction of the Starlight 560 will expand MG’s electrified portfolio in India and offer buyers more choices in the premium SUV space. With both plug-in hybrid and full-electric options expected, the model could appeal to customers looking for longer range flexibility along with lower running costs.
MG Starlight 560 Hybrid Spotted Launch Timeline
JSW MG Motor is likely to launch the new SUV in the fourth quarter of 2026. More details regarding specifications, pricing and the final model name are expected closer to the official debut.
With testing now underway, the Starlight 560 marks an important step in MG’s strategy to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing electrified SUV segment.
