Tesla’s long-delayed next-generation Roadster is finally getting its moment in the spotlight. The American EV maker has teased an October 1, 2026 reveal for the electric sports car, nearly nine years after the second-generation Tesla Roadster was first shown to the public.

Tesla posted a teaser carrying the date 10.01 along with the words “Go for launch,” while its official Roadster page has also been updated with a countdown to the event. Elon Musk subsequently confirmed that the date is for the new Roadster reveal.

Tesla Roadster Reveal Set for October 1
The upcoming event marks a major milestone for Tesla’s Roadster program, which has gone through multiple delays since the prototype was unveiled in November 2017.
At the original reveal, Tesla positioned the Roadster as an all-electric performance car capable of supercar-rivaling acceleration and a 250+ mph top speed. The company’s current U.S. Roadster page still lists targets of 1.9 seconds for 0–60 mph, more than 250 mph of top speed and 620 miles of claimed range.
However, these figures should be treated as Tesla’s previously announced targets for now. The final production specifications for the October reveal have not yet been fully disclosed.
New Tesla Roadster Could Be Different From the 2017 Prototype
One of the biggest questions surrounding the October event is how closely the production Roadster will resemble the original prototype.
Reports earlier this year suggested Tesla had been working on a redesigned version of the sports car rather than simply putting the 2017 concept into production. That means the October 1 event could potentially bring a substantially updated design and revised engineering package.
Tesla has also continued to promote the Roadster as a technology showcase rather than a conventional electric sports car.
SpaceX Connection Could Make the Roadster Even More Extreme
The latest “Go for launch” teaser has naturally reignited speculation around Tesla’s long-promised SpaceX package.
Elon Musk has previously discussed fitting the Roadster with cold-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX, with the system intended to provide additional acceleration and other performance benefits. Reports suggest a demonstration of a limited version equipped with these thrusters could be part of the upcoming event.
Tesla has not yet released complete official details about how such a system would be implemented in the production car, so those claims should remain in the expected/speculation category until the October event.
Tesla Roadster Price Could Be Much Higher Than Before
When the second-generation Roadster was unveiled in 2017, Tesla announced a $200,000 base price, while the Founders Series was priced at $250,000.
That pricing is now almost a decade old, however, and shouldn’t be considered representative of the production car’s final 2026 pricing. Tesla has yet to announce an updated U.S. MSRP for the new Roadster.
The car is also expected to remain a low-volume halo model positioned well above Tesla’s mainstream lineup.

Production Will Still Take Time
One important point for potential buyers: October 1 is a reveal date, not necessarily the start of customer deliveries.
Tesla has previously indicated that production would follow the reveal, and recent reporting suggests the company may still need additional time before the Roadster enters series production.
That means American buyers shouldn’t expect to walk into a Tesla showroom on October 1 and drive home in a new Roadster.

The Roadster has become one of the most anticipated unfinished projects in the automotive industry. Its original promise of extreme acceleration, a 250+ mph top speed and more than 600 miles of range made it one of the most ambitious electric sports cars announced at the time.
