According to dealership observations, 2–4 year old Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi cars in the price bracket of Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh are seeing good interest. Buyers in this segment are also considering a used luxury vehicle instead of purchasing a brand-new premium car, where they can get more features and a luxury-brand experience within their budget.

Used Luxury SUVs Account for 65–70% of Luxury Car Enquiries

According to AutoBest Emperio estimates, SUVs account for approximately 65–70% of current luxury car inquiries. Models like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE, BMW X3 and X5, and Audi Q5 and Q7 are of interest to buyers. Dealerships cite SUVs’ road presence and practicality as key factors in this preference.

What are buyers looking for in the Rs. 30–60 lakh budget?

According to AutoBest Emperio, the Rs. 30–60 lakh budget bracket is a key segment for pre-owned luxury car buyers. Dealerships estimate the average transaction value during the festive season to be around Rs. 45–50 lakh.

This budget presents buyers with an interesting choice: buy a new premium-segment car or consider a 2–4-year-old luxury car. A used Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or Audi can offer higher-segment features and luxury-brand positioning within their budget.

But basing your decision solely on the badge and features isn’t ideal. For luxury cars, maintenance, insurance, replacement parts, and future repairs also contribute significantly to the ownership budget. Therefore, it’s important to calculate long-term running costs along with the purchase price.

First-Time Luxury Car Buyers Are Also Driving Increased Demand

Dealerships estimate that approximately 25–30% of festive-season customers are purchasing their first luxury car. Additionally, approximately 30–35% are upgrading from brands like Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, and Skoda to enter the luxury segment.

One possible reason for this trend is the value proposition. For some buyers, a 2–4-year-old luxury car may be attractive as an alternative to a new premium car. However, this choice will only become practical if the vehicle’s condition, service history, and ownership costs are within their budget.

According to Avneet Singh Kohli, founder of AutoBest Emperio, buyers are now looking at Used Luxury SUVs not just as a comparatively cheaper option, but also from a value perspective. The dealership says that factors like a clean history, low kilometres and suitable warranty support are important in the purchase decision.

Car Condition Is More Important Than Festive Offers

Financing and exchange options can help buyers make purchasing decisions during the festive season. However, when purchasing a pre-owned luxury car, the focus should be on the vehicle’s actual condition rather than discounts.

Buyers should check kilometers driven, complete service records, ownership history, accident repairs, and available warranty support. Independent inspection and verification of relevant documents are also important, especially when purchasing a car from another city.

According to AutoBest Emperio, inquiries are coming from markets other than Delhi-NCR, as well as Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The dealership says buyers are also willing to consider vehicles available in other cities, providing vehicle details and documentation are transparent.

Auto India Daily Verdict

Used Luxury SUVs can be an attractive option for buyers looking for a premium brand, additional features and a higher-segment driving experience within their existing budget.

AutoBest Emperio’s observations highlight the strong interest in SUVs, which account for an estimated 65–70% of enquiries, while the Rs. 30–60 lakh price bracket remains a key segment for pre-owned luxury car demand.

But these figures are estimates from one dealership, not a final picture of the entire Indian market. The most important lesson for buyers is that buying a Used Luxury SUVs should not be based solely on purchase price or brand name. Taking into account vehicle inspection, service history, warranty, maintenance budget and ownership costs together will make a smart buying decision.
