Montra Electric Super Auto enters Nepal market

Nepal has emerged as one of the key entry markets for Montra Electric’s international expansion. According to the company, the market benefits from supportive EV policies, rising fuel costs and access to relatively affordable hydropower.

The Montra Electric Super Auto will be available in Nepal at a price of NPR 8,64,900.

The company believes electric three-wheelers can become commercially attractive for last-mile operators in the country because of their lower operating costs and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.

Montra Electric is also evaluating other high-potential markets across Asia, Africa and other emerging regions as part of its global expansion strategy.

Super Auto designed for challenging road conditions

The Super Auto has been developed with a focus on real-world operating conditions, particularly in markets where vehicles may have to deal with uneven roads, steep inclines and varying loads.

One of its key features is Hill Hold Assist, which is designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards on inclines. The company also highlights its high gradeability as an important capability for demanding terrain.

The vehicle gets a 9kWh battery pack paired with a PMSM motor. The setup produces 60Nm of torque, while the claimed driving range stands at 150km on a single charge.

Its claimed top speed is 55kmph, while the battery can be charged in around 4.5 hours.

Multiple drive modes and 150km claimed range

Montra Electric has equipped the Super Auto with multiple drive modes, allowing the vehicle to adapt its power delivery according to different road and load conditions.

The company says these modes help provide smoother power delivery compared with the sudden shifts associated with conventional gear-based vehicles.

With a claimed range of 150km, the Super Auto is positioned as a practical option for commercial last-mile operations where daily utilisation and running costs are important considerations.

Super Auto gets digital features and spacious cabin

The electric three-wheeler also gets a fully digital instrument cluster along with ergonomic dual-tone seating.

Montra Electric has focused on cabin space as well, with the Super Auto offering increased headroom and legroom. The windshield and roof design are also aimed at improving passenger comfort across different operating environments.

The combination of the electric powertrain, multiple drive modes and hill-hold functionality is intended to make the vehicle suitable for a wide range of commercial applications.

Montra Electric plans wider global expansion

The Super Auto exports are part of Montra Electric’s broader international strategy. The company says it is evaluating multiple markets based on factors such as EV policies, operating economics and demand for last-mile mobility.

Apart from Nepal and Tanzania, Montra Electric has confirmed orders across West Africa, giving the company an initial presence across multiple emerging markets.

Its product development strategy is based on what it describes as a duty-cycle-driven approach, using real-world usage conditions to develop vehicles for specific operating environments.

The company expects this approach to help improve vehicle uptime, efficiency and earning potential for operators.

Montra Electric’s growing electric commercial vehicle portfolio

Montra Electric operates across multiple electric commercial vehicle segments, including e3-wheelers, e-small commercial vehicles, e-tractors and e-medium & heavy commercial vehicles.

Its current portfolio includes the Montra Electric Super Auto, Super Cargo, Eviator, E-27 electric tractor and the Rhino electric truck trailer.

The company is part of TI Clean Mobility Private Limited, which operates under the Murugappa Group.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The international launch of the Montra Electric Super Auto is an important step for the company as it looks beyond India for growth.

Nepal, Tanzania and the confirmed West African orders give Montra Electric an early presence in markets where affordable and practical electric mobility solutions can have strong commercial relevance.

With a claimed 150km range, 60Nm torque, 9kWh battery, 55kmph top speed and 4.5-hour charging time, the Super Auto has been developed around the requirements of last-mile commercial operators.

The bigger story, however, is Montra Electric’s international expansion. If the company successfully scales its products across more Asian and African markets, the Super Auto could become an important part of its global electric mobility strategy.
