The Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift is set to launch in India today, and this time the company hasn’t limited itself to just cosmetic changes to the premium hatchback.
The new Baleno could also see noticeable changes in the engine, safety technology, and transmission options.
The biggest highlight could be a change in the cylinder count of the 1.2-liter petrol engine. Level 1 ADAS, CNG with AMT, and a more premium cabin could also be part of the facelifted Baleno package.

The Baleno already competes with strong premium hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz. Both rivals have seen consistent upgrades to their feature lists and technology packages, and Maruti’s latest update appears to be aimed at tackling this competition.

The Engine Will Be the Biggest Mechanical Change
The most interesting change in the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift could be found under the bonnet.
The current Baleno is powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine. With the facelift, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to replace this unit with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine. This engine is already used in the Swift and Dzire.
The Z12E engine in the Swift generates approximately 82 PS of power and 112 Nm of torque. Its exact output in the Baleno will be confirmed at launch.
The objective of the shift to a three-cylinder engine is not simply cost reduction. The Z12E is comparatively lightweight and prioritizes efficiency, which could be important for Baleno buyers in daily city driving.
Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

Another interesting speculation regarding the Baleno facelift concerns the 1.0-liter BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine.
Maruti Suzuki previously offered the BoosterJet engine with the Baleno RS. Now, the level of engine localization has improved significantly, leading to discussions about the possibility of the return of the turbo-petrol unit.
However, the BoosterJet engine in the Baleno facelift is not yet confirmed. If Maruti introduces this in the production version, the Baleno could become a strong, performance-focused option directly against the turbo-petrol variants of the Hyundai i20.

The possibility of Maruti Suzuki offering the Baleno with a factory-fitted CNG setup is already strong, but an AMT gearbox with a CNG powertrain could make this update particularly interesting.
The CNG version is expected to feature a 5-speed manual and AMT options with the Z12-series engine. Reports suggest that the CNG-AMT combination could be available in the Delta and Zeta variants.

Level 1 ADAS Will Add a Major Safety Upgrade

Maruti Suzuki may introduce Level 1 ADAS, which could place the Baleno among India’s more affordable ADAS-equipped hatchbacks.
