Mahindra has once again updated its popular 3-door lifestyle SUV. The new 3-door Thar, dubbed the Mahindra Thar OG, has a starting price of Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom).
This is another major update to the current-generation Thar, introduced less than a year after the 2025 update.

This time around, Mahindra hasn’t just made styling changes. Upgrades like the new M_Glyde 4G platform, revised suspension, electric power steering, Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), six airbags, and all-round disc brakes make the Thar OG technically different from the previous model. The petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines have also received more power.

Mahindra Thar OG Price
The Mahindra Thar OG has a starting price of Rs. 10.32 lakh ex-showroom. Interestingly, this is equivalent to the entry-level price of the outgoing Thar. The new 3-door Thar will compete with SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha in the segment.
Mahindra has positioned the Thar OG with new features and mechanical updates at launch. Its familiar 3-door body style and off-road-focused character have been retained.
Mahindra Thar OG Exterior Design
In terms of design, the overall silhouette of the Mahindra Thar OG remains the same, but there are noticeable changes in the front and rear. The SUV features a new grille with Thar branding, redesigned LED headlamps, and C-shaped LED DRLs. It also gets LED fog lamps with cornering function.
The front and rear bumpers have also been revised, while the SUV’s track is wider than the previous model. Higher variants get new 19-inch alloy wheels, and the rear side features revised LED taillamps and OG branding on the tailgate.
The color palette has also been expanded. In addition to the existing shades, the Thar OG gets new color options like Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue. The overall design brings elements inspired by the Thar Roxx to the 3-door body.
Mahindra Thar OG Interior and Features
The basic layout of the cabin has remained largely familiar, but Mahindra has made some important additions to improve comfort and practicality. The Thar OG features Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, giving the cabin a slightly different look from the previous model.
A second-row armrest with integrated cupholders has also been added for rear passengers. Mahindra says the updated Mahindra Thar OG has lower NVH levels compared to the previous model, meaning the cabin has also been focused on making it comparatively quieter and refined.
In the 2025 update, the Thar received upgrades such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents, rear wiper-washers, and a rear camera. The latest update to the Mahindra Thar OG further improves overall usability, along with mechanical refinement and safety.

6 Airbags and All-Round Disc Brakes Standard
On the safety front, Mahindra has made a major upgrade to the Thar OG. Six airbags are now standard, meaning this feature will be available across all variants in the range.
According to Mahindra, the Thar OG is the first car in the segment to offer a four-head pelvis thorax shoulder (HPTS) airbag system. According to the company, this system is designed to provide protection to the occupants’ head, pelvis, thorax, and shoulder areas during a side impact.
The braking system has also undergone significant changes. Four-wheel disc brakes are now standard. The ESP suite is also standard, including functions such as rollover mitigation, traction control, hill-hold control, and vehicle dynamics control.
Front parking sensors will also be available in higher variants.
New Platform and DAVINCI Suspension
The Mahindra Thar OG has now shifted to the M_Glyde 4G platform, which was previously used in the larger Thar Roxx. According to Mahindra, the new platform provides higher structural stiffness than the previous setup.
The rear suspension has also received significant changes. The Thar OG gets Pentalink suspension with Watts Link. The objective of this setup is to better control the lateral movement of the rear axle.
The SUV also features Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) technology, which Mahindra calls DAVINCI dampers in its terminology. The company claims that the revised suspension setup could make the Thar OG’s ride quality more comfortable than the previous model.
Electronic Locking Differential and Electric Steering
Off-road capability hasn’t been overlooked either. Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) has been introduced in the Thar OG. This system electronically locks the rear axle to help direct available engine power to the wheel with better grip.
Dedicated terrain modes for Mud, Sand, and Snow have also been introduced, which aid in traction management on various low-grip surfaces.
Another major mechanical change is the use of Electric Power Steering (EPS) instead of hydraulic steering. This is intended to make steering effort easier, especially in city driving, parking, and low-speed maneuvering.
Mahindra Thar OG Engine and Transmission
The three engines in the powertrain lineup have been continued, but two engines have received power bumps. The 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine now produces 162 hp and 330 Nm, which is 10 hp and up to 30 Nm more than the previous setup.
The output of the 2.2-liter diesel engine has also been increased. It now produces 152 hp and 330 Nm, an increase of 18 hp and 30 Nm compared to the previous version.
The entry-level 1.5-liter diesel engine has been carried forward, producing 117 hp and 300 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. Depending on the variant, the Thar OG can be had in either RWD or 4WD configuration.

The Mahindra Thar OG update isn’t just a cosmetic facelift. With a starting price of Rs. 10.32 lakh, Mahindra has also made changes to the SUV’s platform, suspension, steering, braking, safety, and off-road hardware.
The most significant upgrades include six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, EPS, ELD, Watts Link suspension, and more powerful petrol/diesel engines. New LED lighting, colors, and cabin improvements make the Thar OG a more complete package than the previous 3-door model.
The Thar’s core formula—a compact 3-door body, rugged design, and 4WD capability—remains the same, but in the latest update, Mahindra has placed a noticeably greater focus on everyday usability and mechanical refinement.
