BMW F 450 R Teased Ahead of October 1 Reveal: What We Know

BMW Motorrad India has confirmed the arrival of a new model in the entry-level performance bike segment by releasing a teaser of its upcoming motorcycle.

The company has scheduled the motorcycle to be revealed on October 1, 2026. The teaser does not reveal full details of the bike, but based on available clues, it is being seen as an F 450 GS-based roadster.

Reports suggest that the upcoming motorcycle could be named the BMW F 450 R. BMW has not yet confirmed the official name, but the arrival of a roadster version on the same 450 platform after the F 450 GS fits in with the brand’s existing naming strategy.

BMW F 450 R Teaser: Roadster Design Confirmed

BMW’s teaser clearly indicates that the upcoming motorcycle will have a distinct road-oriented character from the adventure-focused F 450 GS. The teaser image provides a limited glimpse of the front section, which shows a conventional naked-roadster stance and USD front forks.

The F 450 GS features a 43mm USD fork with 180mm of suspension travel. In the Roadster version, BMW can tune the suspension setup for road riding, with lower travel and different damping characteristics possible. However, the exact suspension specifications of the upcoming motorcycle have not yet been officially revealed.

In terms of design, the BMW F 450 R is expected to feature compact proportions, a muscular fuel tank, exposed mechanical components, and a sporty riding position. Final design details will be confirmed after the October 1 reveal.

Expected 420cc Twin-Cylinder Engine

The most interesting aspect of the upcoming BMW roadster is its expected powertrain. The BMW F 450 GS is powered by the company’s new 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which produces 48 hp and 43 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

There is a strong possibility that the BMW F 450 R will also use this engine. However, it is not yet clear whether BMW will make changes to the engine mapping, gearing, or output for the roadster application.

This engine in the F 450 GS is an important part of BMW’s new entry-level middleweight platform. The adventure motorcycle’s India production takes place at TVS Motor Company’s Hosur facility, and BMW launched it in India in April 2026.

If the F 450 R also adopts the same powertrain, it will add a relatively compact parallel-twin roadster to BMW’s portfolio.

A new entry-level roadster from BMW after the G 310 R?

The G 310 R was previously available in BMW Motorrad’s entry-level roadster range in India. Both the G 310 R and G 310 GS are now discontinued, while the G 310 RR remains in the brand’s India portfolio.

The potential arrival of the F 450 R could significantly elevate BMW beyond the 300cc single-cylinder platform in the roadster segment. This bike is likely to focus on performance, premium equipment, and twin-cylinder character.

The F 450 GS already establishes BMW’s new 450 platform in India. If the company introduces a roadster version of this architecture, it could also benefit from development and manufacturing efficiencies through platform sharing.

What could the BMW F 450 R cost?

The current India price of the BMW F 450 GS starts at ₹4.95 lakh after a price hike in September 2026, while the top-spec GS Trophy variant reaches ₹5.60 lakh.

The F 450 R could be positioned below the F 450 GS, especially if the motorcycle features simpler suspension and fewer adventure-focused components. Therefore, its price is likely to be lower than the base variant of the F 450 GS.

However, BMW has not officially announced the F 450 R’s price or India positioning, so it’s not safe to assume any specific figures are confirmed at this time.

Competition could be from the Aprilia Tuono 457 and KTM 390 Duke

If the BMW F 450 R arrives in India with the expected specifications, it will compete in the middleweight naked motorcycle space.

The Aprilia Tuono 457 is currently a key rival in this segment, while the KTM 390 Duke is positioned as a performance-focused single-cylinder alternative. The F 450 R’s parallel-twin engine could offer a different proposition in terms of character and refinement.

Pricing will be a critical factor here, as BMW’s premium positioning could naturally place the motorcycle in a higher price bracket.

Official Reveal on October 1

BMW Motorrad has indicated a timing of October 1, 2026, 5:30 PM IST, for the reveal of the upcoming motorcycle. The motorcycle’s official name, design, engine specifications, features, and India pricing/availability details are expected to be revealed at this event.

So far, BMW has only confirmed the upcoming motorcycle’s arrival through teasers. The F 450 R name, exact engine output, kerb weight, suspension specifications, and price should not be considered confirmed until an official reveal.
