Nissan has presented its iconic Z sports car in a unique way. The company unveiled the Nissan Z Kaze Concept at 2026 ZCON, specifically inspired by 1990s tuner culture and the vintage open-top Z sports cars.
The concept’s most striking feature is its custom-engineered T-top roof, which gives the current Nissan Z the character of an open-air sports car.

‘Kaze’ is a Japanese word meaning wind. According to Nissan, the idea behind this concept was to create a driving experience that combines the Z’s performance with the wind-in-the-hair feel of an open roof. This project was developed as a passion project by Nissan’s product planners and designers.

Custom T-Top Roof in the Nissan Z Kaze Concept
The most distinctive feature of the Nissan Z Kaze Concept is its T-top roof. Nissan designed a custom-engineered roof for the current Z, allowing drivers and passengers to remove roof panels and enjoy a more open-air driving experience.
The design is reminiscent of Nissan’s earlier open-top Z models and also connects to 1990s Japanese sports car culture. Nissan developed this concept with the idea of a summer drive on California’s Pacific Coast Highway.
For now, Nissan has only introduced it as a concept vehicle and has not confirmed its production date.
Exterior Inspired by ’90s Tuner Culture
The Nissan Z Kaze Concept features a Pacific Teal paint finish, further highlighting its retro-inspired theme. Its exterior features several custom modifications compared to the standard Z.
These include a lightweight vented carbon-fiber hood, wider fender flares, and a custom carbon-fiber aerodynamic body kit. These changes aim to give the Z a more performance-focused stance while maintaining its original design character.
The concept also features exclusive 18-inch NISMO LMGT2 forged multi-piece wheels. These wheels are no longer in production, so the Nissan team sourced an original set and restored and rebuilt them. The front wheels are 10 inches wide and the rear wheels are 11 inches wide.

White Interior and Bose Headrest Speakers
The Z Kaze’s interior also features a different theme from the regular Z. While many performance concepts feature a dark cabin theme, this concept features white leather-appointed seats.
The interior also features carbon-fiber accents, which match the exterior’s performance-inspired treatment. Removing the T-top panels can cause increased wind and road noise in the cabin, so Nissan has integrated Bose Personal Plus headrest speakers into the seats.
GReddy Upgrades with the Twin-Turbo V6
The Nissan Z Kaze Concept mechanical package also reflects tuner culture. Its suspension has been upgraded with NISMO components.
Additionally, the Nissan Z’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine features components from Japanese tuning company GReddy. These include a SUPREME SP exhaust system, a front-mounted air-to-air intercooler kit, and an Airinx air filter kit.
However, Nissan hasn’t announced any specific horsepower or torque figures for the Z Kaze Concept. Therefore, it wouldn’t be accurate to project this concept as a more powerful production car based solely on engine modifications.
Will the Nissan Z Kaze enter production?
Nissan has not yet announced the Z Kaze as a production model. The company is showcasing it at ZCON as a concept and passion project. Nissan’s official statement also does not mention it as a vehicle available for purchase.
The Nissan Z Kaze Concept will be displayed at ZCON in Phoenix, Arizona, until September 26, 2026. After that, Nissan will take it to the Japanese Classic Car Show.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The Nissan Z Kaze Concept takes the current Z in a different direction. Its T-top roof, Pacific Teal paint, restored NISMO LMGT2 wheels, and 90s-inspired carbon-fiber bodywork give it a distinct character from the regular Z.
Interestingly, Nissan has combined ancient Z heritage and modern tuner culture in a single concept. However, as it is just a concept, there is no confirmed information regarding its production version or launch.
