Tata Motors has expanded the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme for its electric vehicle portfolio, giving more buyers access to Tata EVs at a lower upfront price. Earlier, this facility was limited to the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, but now the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev also get the BaaS option.
With this, customers get the option of lower upfront vehicle price across the entire Tata.ev electric car portfolio.

Under the new BaaS structure, the battery cost has been separated from the vehicle purchase price. This means that the customer can choose a financing arrangement for the car and separate financing for the battery. According to Tata, the battery EMI will depend on the battery size, down payment and loan tenure.
Under this scheme, the starting BaaS vehicle price of the Tata Tiago.ev is Rs. 4.69 lakh, while the flagship Harrier.ev has a starting price of Rs. 14.49 lakh. However, this does not include the full ownership cost, as battery financing/usage costs will need to be paid separately.

Tata EVs BaaS Prices: Tiago.ev to Harrier.ev
Tata EVs latest BaaS structure covers six electric models. From the entry-level Tiago.ev to the Harrier.ev, upfront vehicle costs reduce significantly depending on the model.
| Tata EV | Battery | Regular Starting Price | BaaS Starting Vehicle Price | Battery Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiago.ev | 19 kWh | Rs. 6.99 lakh | Rs. 4.69 lakh | Rs. 2.6/km |
| Punch.ev | 30 kWh | Rs. 9.79 lakh | Rs. 6.59 lakh | Rs. 2.6/km |
| Nexon.ev | 45 kWh | Rs. 14.34 lakh | Rs. 8.99 lakh | Rs. 4.4/km |
| Curvv.ev | 55 kWh | Rs. 17.19 lakh | Rs. 10.99 lakh | Rs. 5/km |
| Sierra.ev | 63 kWh | Rs. 18.79 lakh | Rs. 11.99 lakh | Rs. 5.5/km |
| Harrier.ev | 65 kWh | Rs. 21.79 lakh | Rs. 14.49 lakh | Rs. 5.9/km |
Tata’s indicated BaaS figures are for entry-level trims. Battery usage calculations are based on specified daily usage assumptions, so actual customer EMI and overall cost may vary depending on financing terms.
Harrier.ev Gets Rs. 7.30 Lakh Lower Upfront Price

The biggest upfront difference in the portfolio is seen with the Tata Harrier.ev. Its BaaS starting vehicle price is Rs. 14.49 lakh compared to its regular starting price of Rs. 21.79 lakh.
This translates to a difference of Rs. 7.30 lakh in the upfront vehicle price. Instead, customers will have to pay battery financing/usage costs separately, which start at Rs. 5.9 per km in the indicated structure.
In the case of the Sierra.ev, the regular starting price is Rs. The BaaS price is reduced from Rs. 18.79 lakh to Rs. 11.99 lakh, while the BaaS starting vehicle price of the Curvv.ev is Rs. 10.99 lakh and that of the Nexon.ev is Rs. 8.99 lakh.
Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, and Sierra.ev also on the BaaS list

The most important change for Tata is that BaaS will no longer be limited to just entry-level EV buyers. Buyers of larger EVs like the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev, and Harrier.ev will also have the option of a lower upfront price.
The starting vehicle price of the BaaS version of the Nexon.ev is Rs. 8.99 lakh, which is Rs. 5.35 lakh lower than the regular Rs. 14.34 lakh starting price. The difference in the Curvv.ev is Rs. 6.20 lakh, while in the case of Sierra.ev, the upfront difference is Rs. 6.80 lakh.
With this approach, Tata is trying to bring its EV range closer to the upfront pricing of conventional petrol and diesel cars. However, customers will have to calculate vehicle EMI + battery EMI/usage cost + charging expenses together when comparing monthly finance outgo.

How does Battery-as-a-Service work?

The basic concept of BaaS is simple. In a traditional EV purchase, the cost of the vehicle and battery are part of the overall vehicle price. In the BaaS model, the battery cost is shifted to a separate financing structure.
Tata’s latest structure has separate loan accounts for the vehicle and battery. Battery EMI is determined based on the battery pack capacity, initial down payment, and selected loan tenure.
The advantage of this is that the buyer doesn’t have to initially finance the vehicle with the entire battery cost. However, this doesn’t mean the battery is free. Battery-related payments will be a separate component of the ownership cost.
Tata’s indicated per-kilometer figures also reflect this battery financing/usage structure. Charging costs, maintenance, and vehicle repairs are not part of the battery fee.
What should customers pay attention to in Tata EV BaaS?
The most important point of BaaS is the difference between the headline price and the actual monthly outgo. For example, given the Nexon EV BaaS starting vehicle price of ₹8.99 lakh, buyers shouldn’t ignore the battery payment.
If the customer has high daily driving, the overall monthly impact of the battery cost per kilometer may be higher. Similarly, the loan tenure and down payment will also affect the battery financing cost.
Tata’s indicated calculations are based on specific usage assumptions, so it’s important to obtain a final finance quote from the dealership. The scheme is available for individual users, and commercial usage is excluded in the stated terms.
Tata EVs Range Gets a New Buying Option
The Tata EVs portfolio now includes the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curv EV, Sierra EV, and Harrier EV through BaaS. This offers customers a financing route with a lower upfront vehicle price compared to a conventional full-price purchase.
New financing models are developing in the market around battery technology and EV ownership costs, and Tata’s full-range BaaS expansion is a major step in this direction. The company aims to reduce the upfront entry barrier, while retaining battery costs as a separate financing component.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The biggest highlight of the Tata EVs BaaS expansion is lower upfront pricing. Covering the entire range from Tiago.EV to Harrier.EV gives buyers an additional financing option for EV purchases.
However, figures like Rs. 4.69 lakh or Rs. 14.49 lakh would not be accurate to consider as the total EV price, as battery financing/usage costs are separate. The final decision for the buyer will be meaningful only after combining vehicle EMI, battery cost, charging expense and usage pattern.
