Maruti Suzuki’s dominance was also clearly visible in the top 10 list of September. Six models of the brand were included in the ranking, which include Baleno, Franx, Wagon R, Dzire, Swift and Ertiga.
On the other hand, Tata Motors’ Nexon and Punch made it to the top three. Combined sales of the top 10 models stood at 191,332 units, a growth of approximately 15.5% compared to last year.

1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno — 25,392 units

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno was the best-selling car in September 2026. Its reported sales reached 25,392 units, a 93% increase from 13,173 units in September 2025. The model recorded a growth of 12,219 units in a year, the largest absolute gain in this top 10 list.
The Baleno’s first-place finish highlights strong demand in the premium hatchback segment. It surpassed the second-placed Tata Nexon by a margin of 4,936 units.
2. Tata Nexon — 20,456 units

The Tata Nexon secured the second position with 20,456 units, but its sales were down 9% compared to 22,573 units in September 2025. Despite this decline, the Nexon remained the highest-selling SUV in the top 10.
3. Tata Punch — 20,333 units
The Tata Punch secured the third position with sales of 20,333 units. Its year-on-year sales grew by 28%, compared to 15,891 units reported in September 2025. There was a difference of only 123 units between the Nexon and Punch, indicating a close competition between the two Tata SUVs.

4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx — 19,282 units
The Fronx remained in fourth place with 19,282 units. Its sales increased by 40% compared to 13,767 units in September 2025. This performance gave Maruti Suzuki another strong SUV-crossover entry in the top 10.
5. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R — 18,835 units
The Wagon R secured the fifth position with reported sales of 18,835 units. Its sales were 22% higher than last year’s 15,388 units. The strong performance of the Baleno and Wagon R also highlights the continued relevance of hatchbacks on the list.
6. Maruti Suzuki Dzire — 17,754 units
