Upon arrival in India, the Bigster could be positioned above the Duster in Renault’s SUV range. According to reports, it is likely to be offered with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The hybrid system will first be introduced in India with the new Renault Duster, which has a launch date of October 17, 2026.
Renault has not yet officially confirmed the launch, pricing, or final specifications of the India-spec Bigster. Therefore, its features and powertrain should be considered expected details.

Dacia Bigster Expected Powertrain

Turbo-petrol and Strong-Hybrid Options Expected
The India-bound Renault Bigster could be powered by a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine. Additionally, the company may offer a 1.8-liter strong-hybrid powertrain. If a hybrid option comes, the Bigster could be an interesting alternative for buyers who want a large SUV but also prioritize fuel efficiency.
The upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid is said to feature a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine along with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery. The combined output of this system is 160 hp and 172 Nm. Power delivery is handled by a multi-mode automatic gearbox that operates on fixed gear ratios.
This is a strong-hybrid system, so there is no need for an external charging point to charge the battery. The battery keeps getting recharged during driving. Renault claims that the Duster Hybrid can cover up to 80 percent of city driving in electric mode.
The Bigster is also likely to use this hybrid setup. However, due to the SUV’s different size and weight, its final power output and torque may differ from the Duster. Renault has not yet confirmed the Bigster’s India-specific engine and performance figures.
Dacia Bigster exterior design and dimensions

A larger SUV than the Duster, with rugged styling
The European-spec Dacia Bigster has a muscular and rugged design. It features a chunky front skid plate, bold bumpers, and LED daytime running lights. The overall styling gives it a slightly adventure-focused character rather than a traditional family SUV.
In terms of dimensions, the Dacia Bigster wheelbase is 45mm longer than the India-spec Duster. Its overall length is also 230mm longer, with the rear overhang contributing significantly. The extra length could help improve cabin packaging and third-row space, although actual India-spec seating and interior dimensions are still pending confirmation.
When launched in India, the Renault-badged Bigster could feature some design changes from the European Dacia version. The India-spec Duster also features elements like the grille, bumpers, and rear styling that differ from the European model. The Indian version of the Duster gets connected tail-lamps, while the European Dacia Duster has separate rear lamp units.
Following this pattern, the Indian version of the Bigster is also likely to receive market-specific styling changes. However, the final exterior design will be known closer to launch.

Dacia Bigster Interior and 7-Seater Layout

Focus on Extra Space for Family Buyers
The India-bound Dacia Bigster is expected to feature a seven-seat layout. With a three-row configuration, it can accommodate more passengers than the Duster and be a practical option for larger families.
Its cabin layout may be inspired by the new Renault Duster, but the larger body is likely to offer additional space and extra features. The Duster features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and a wireless phone charger.
The Dacia Bigster could also receive some of these features, while Renault could offer additional equipment to position it higher in its range. Official details of the India-spec Bigster’s dashboard, seat configuration, third-row comfort, and feature list haven’t been revealed yet.
Seasonal capacity isn’t the only factor in seven-seater SUVs. Third-row legroom, rear AC vents, luggage space, and second-row access also influence buyers’ decisions. A clearer picture on these aspects will emerge once India-spec Bigster details are revealed.
Dacia Bigster India Launch and Expected Rivals
The Renault-badged Bigster could be launched in India in 2027. If it arrives on the expected timeline, it will add a larger, family-focused option to the company’s SUV range, above the Duster.
It could compete with three-row SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 7XO. MG’s larger SUV range could also be part of the competition in this segment. The final rivals will depend on the price bracket Renault launches the Bigster in and its exact seating layout.
Furthermore, a three-row SUV model from Nissan has also been spotted testing in India. This adds further interest to the Renault-Nissan alliance’s SUV plans, but the positioning and specifications of the Nissan model and the Renault Bigster will need to be confirmed separately.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The Dacia Bigster could be an important upcoming SUV for India, especially for buyers who want more space and seven-seat practicality than the Duster. With a turbo-petrol engine and a strong-hybrid option, this SUV could offer a balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
However, the India launch, final engine specifications, features, and pricing are not yet confirmed. Therefore, the most important updates regarding the Bigster will come from an official announcement from Renault and the reveal of the India-spec model.
