The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV uses an 800V electrical architecture. The GT 53’s 106kWh battery pack has a claimed WLTP range of up to 668km. The GT 55 and GT 63 feature larger 128kWh battery packs, with a claimed range of up to 700km.

Charging capability is also one of the SUV’s major highlights. The GT 53 boasts up to 600kW DC fast charging, and the GT 55/GT 63 boasts up to 710kW charging. According to the company’s preliminary figures, it can take approximately 11–12 minutes to charge the battery from 10–80 percent on a compatible charging setup.

These charging figures are preliminary, and actual charging speed will depend on the compatible charger, battery temperature, and charging conditions. Therefore, the 710 kW capability should not be assumed to represent the speed available at every public charging station.

Rear-wheel steering is standard on the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, which can aid in low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability. AMG’s new Active Ride Control+ suspension also debuts on the SUV.

This system is standard on the top-spec GT 63. Traditional anti-roll bars have been replaced with hydraulic units, which are intended to control body roll during cornering and body pitch during acceleration and braking. Carbon-ceramic brakes are also standard on the GT 63.

In the Tri-motor variants, the driver can adjust throttle response, cornering behavior, and traction control via center-console controls. The AMG Force Sport+ mode also creates simulated gearshifts and a sound experience inspired by the AMG V8 engine. The GT 53 is claimed to have sound inspired by the six-cylinder engine.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV India Launch: What to Expect?

Currently, Mercedes-AMG has not confirmed the GT SUV’s India launch, pricing, or local availability. Therefore, it is not yet correct to make any firm predictions regarding the launch date or expected price in India.

The GT 53 will go on sale first in the global lineup, while the GT 55 and GT 63 will arrive in spring 2027. Availability and specifications of these variants in India may differ from the global launch schedule.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is not just a high-performance electric SUV, but an attempt to combine power, range, and technology in one package. With the top-spec GT 63’s 1,169hp output and a claimed 0–100kph acceleration time of 2.7 seconds, its performance focus is clear. Additionally, up to 700km claimed WLTP range and high-power DC charging make it promising for long-distance usability as well.

But production specifications, real-world range, charging infrastructure compatibility and pricing will need to be revealed for a final judgment. The biggest question for Indian buyers still remains whether Mercedes-AMG will bring this electric performance SUV to India or not.
