VinFast Expansion of Manufacturing and Dealership Network in India

VinFast opened a Tamil Nadu manufacturing facility in 2025. Following this, the company continued to expand its business and distribution network in India.

According to a PR note from NewsVoir, VinFast recorded 12,877 vehicle registrations in the first nine months of 2026, based on government data. In September 2026, the company ranked fourth among EV brands. According to VinFast Asia CEO Tapan Ghosh, the company had achieved its year-end target of 75 dealerships.

India is an important market for the company, as there is still significant growth potential for EV adoption. Local manufacturing and dealership expansion could provide the company with an opportunity to reach customers and improve after-sales support.

Focus on Ownership Costs with Free Charging and Maintenance

VinFast is also prioritizing charging and maintenance support in its EV ownership strategy. The company is offering complimentary charging at eligible V-Green partner charging stations until March 2029. Additionally, complimentary maintenance and residual value guarantees are part of the company’s ownership-support program.

Charging expenses, servicing, and future resale value are important factors for EV buyers, along with the initial purchase price. Complimentary charging can reduce running costs for eligible customers, while maintenance support provides additional convenience during ownership.

Residual value guarantees also aim to address buyers’ uncertainty regarding future resale value. However, the actual value of these benefits will depend on applicable terms and customer eligibility.

The broader idea of VinFast’s strategy is to make the overall experience of buying and using an electric car practical for customers.

VinFast will also expand into electric two-wheelers and ride-hailing.

VinFast’s India plans are not limited to passenger cars. The company has signed letters of intent with more than 50 electric-motorcycle dealer partners by October 2026. It also plans to introduce locally produced electric two-wheelers.

Two-wheelers are an important part of daily commuting in India. Entry into this segment could give VinFast an opportunity to reach a broader customer base in electric mobility. However, pricing, specifications, and launch timelines for upcoming electric motorcycles have not yet been confirmed in the PR note.

The company’s strategic partner, Green SM, has also launched electric ride-hailing operations in New Delhi. This adds the element of shared electric transport to VinFast’s broader mobility strategy.

Why is India important to VinFast’s global strategy?

VinFast sees India as an important market for its global expansion plans. In a Nikkei Asia interview published on October 28, the company’s Asia chief, Tapan Ghosh, said that success in India would give it confidence to replicate the Vietnam and India success stories in other markets.

This approach highlights the company’s long-term ambition. However, sustainable growth in the Indian market will require a consistent focus on competitive pricing, reliable service, accessible charging, and customer satisfaction.

Auto India Daily Verdict- VinFast India Strategy

The main focus of VinFast India Strategy is to develop a complete EV ecosystem beyond electric cars. The Tamil Nadu manufacturing facility, dealership expansion, complimentary charging, and plans for electric two-wheelers reflect the company’s broader ambitions.

The company’s most important challenge now will be to translate these plans into a consistent customer experience. If VinFast can deliver on charging access, after-sales support, and competitive products, it could have an opportunity to strengthen its position in the Indian EV market.
