The new 2027 Honda Africa Twin series will replace the previous-generation CRF1100L platform. The engine displacement has been increased to 1,131cc, while efforts have been made to improve handling and balance through weight reduction and a low center-of-gravity layout.
Honda has developed the new series under the ‘Shaped by You. True Adventure for All‘ concept. The lineup includes the standard Africa Twin, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, and the newly introduced Africa Twin Enduro Sports. These three variants have been developed keeping different riding requirements in mind.

2027 Honda Africa Twin: Three Variants Explained

2027 Honda Africa Twin series will feature three different versions, each focused on different riding styles.
CRF1150L Africa Twin:
The standard model is designed to offer a balance between on-road touring and off-road riding. It features an updated engine, a revised platform, a refreshed HMI, an electrically adjustable windscreen, and the Honda Smart Key system. The suspension setup also includes Honda Skyhook control with Showa EERA technology.
CRF1150L Africa Twin Adventure Sports:
This variant prioritizes long-distance touring and comfort. It features a 24-liter fuel tank and a 19-inch front wheel. The biggest highlight of this variant is the optional Honda SENSING RIDE technology, which introduces advanced safety and rider-assistance features to the motorcycle.
CRF1150L Africa Twin Enduro Sports:
This is an all-new addition to the lineup. This variant has been developed for genuine off-road performance. It features CRF450 RALLY-inspired styling and a dedicated front suspension setup, aimed at providing better riding capability on difficult terrain.
New 1,131cc Parallel-Twin Engine Produces 119Nm Torque

The new 2027 Honda Africa Twin series features a liquid-cooled 1,131cc parallel-twin engine. Compared to the previous-generation 1,100cc engine, the displacement has been increased, aiming to improve acceleration and cruising performance.
According to Honda’s official specifications, the engine produces 87.5kW of maximum power at 7,500rpm and 119Nm of peak torque at 5,700rpm.
Changes have been made to the engine displacement, compression ratio, and bore diameter to improve performance. The intake and exhaust systems have also been optimized, while gear ratios have been revised.
Honda’s focus isn’t just on increasing outright performance. The company developed the engine to combine comfortable cruising and stronger acceleration, which will play an important role in long-distance adventure touring.

Revised Chassis and Honda Skyhook Suspension Technology

The new 2027 Honda Africa Twin series features a redesigned frame and swingarm. According to Honda, the revised rigidity balance and structural updates have reduced the combined weight of the frame and swingarm by 1.4 kg compared to the previous generation.
The motorcycle’s fuel sub-tank has been positioned beneath the seat, helping to lower the center of gravity. This can benefit low-speed maneuverability and overall control, especially in off-road conditions.
The standard Africa Twin and Adventure Sports variants feature Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) suspension. This system now also integrates Honda Skyhook technology.
The suspension system detects the motorcycle’s movement in real-time and continuously adjusts the damping force. This helps reduce unwanted body movement and provide a more stable riding experience under varying road conditions.
The Enduro Sports variant features a CRF450 RALLY-inspired front suspension, developed for dedicated off-road performance.
Honda SENSING RIDE: Advanced Safety Technology for Motorcycles

The most interesting technology upgrade in the new 2027 Honda Africa Twin series is the Honda SENSING RIDE system. According to Honda, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT variant will be the brand’s first motorcycle model to feature this advanced safety and rider-assistance technology.
The system detects surrounding traffic through millimeter-wave radar units mounted on the front and rear of the motorcycle. By assessing the situation of the rider and motorcycle, the system provides warnings, notifications, and riding assistance.
Major functions of Honda SENSING RIDE include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- ACC with Stop & Go
- Group Ride Assist
- Distance Assist
- Forward Collision Warning
- Emergency Brake Assist
- Blind Spot Information
- Rear Distance Information
- Rear Collision Warning
This technology can be especially useful when combined with Honda’s Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). When ACC is activated, Stop & Go functionality provides assistance in smoothly stopping and starting the motorcycle in traffic.
This feature was developed with the aim of reducing rider fatigue in congested urban traffic along with long-distance touring. However, Honda has specifically listed it as optional equipment for the Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT variant.
Updated Design and Six Riding Modes

The exterior design of the new 2027 Honda Africa Twin series retains the previous generation’s adventure identity, but the front section has been given a more compact and sharper look. The updated design of the dual headlamps continues the signature Twin Eyes styling.
The Adventure Sports variant features a larger windscreen and a 24-liter fuel tank, designed with long-distance touring requirements in mind. The Enduro Sports model features CRF450 Rally-inspired styling elements, further accentuating its off-road character.
Honda has also provided six default riding modes across the three models. These modes integrate systems such as engine output, traction control, ABS, DCT, and electronically controlled suspension to adjust performance according to different riding conditions.
Honda Uses Recycled and Sustainable Materials
Honda has also focused on the use of sustainable materials in the new Africa Twin series. According to the company, chemically recycled acrylic material has been used in the motorcycle’s emblems and taillights. This is the first application of this material on a Honda motorcycle.
In addition, chemically recycled nylon material has been used in the upper covers and around the rear fender stays. The windscreen and side deflectors use plant-derived DURABIO bioengineering plastic, while some bodywork components use post-consumer recycled polypropylene.
Honda’s long-term goal is to achieve the use of 100% sustainable materials in its products by 2050.
Auto India Daily Verdict
The update to the 2027 Honda Africa Twin series isn’t limited to just an increase in engine displacement. The new 1,131cc parallel-twin engine, lighter chassis, Honda Skyhook suspension technology, and optional Honda SENSING RIDE system make it a significant technological upgrade as well.
The addition of an Enduro Sports variant to the lineup is also important, as buyers will now have separate options for dedicated off-road performance and long-distance touring.
From the perspective of the Indian market, Honda SENSING RIDE could be the most interesting development. However, details regarding the India launch timeline, variant availability, and pricing have not yet been provided in the supplied announcement. Local buyers will have to wait for the final India-spec announcement.
