Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the task force on September 15, 2026. The committee is chaired by NITI Aayog Program Director and Advisor Yugal Kishore Joshi. Its objective is not only to organize a Grand Prix, but also to prepare a coordinated roadmap for the sustainable development of motorsport in India.

What’s in the F1 India 2028 Plan?
According to the government, the task force will conduct a detailed assessment of the challenges and feasibility required to bring Formula 1 back to India.
The committee’s mandate is to recommend a holistic, coordinated roadmap for hosting a Formula 1 race in 2028. It will also identify policy interventions for the sustainable growth of motorsport in India.
This means that for now, 2028 is best viewed as a target under consideration, not a confirmed F1 calendar date.
Who is on the 10-member task force?
The task force will be chaired by Yugal Kishore Joshi. The committee also includes Sports Ministry Joint Secretary Kunal, along with representatives from the tourism, commerce, and revenue departments.
In addition, representatives from the Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra governments, representatives from the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) and Madras International Circuit (MIC), and FMSCI representatives are also part of the committee. FMSCI will also nominate a technical expert.
The reported structure also includes representation from taxation authorities CBIC and CBDT, who will play an important role in examining taxation issues related to F1 hosting.

Formula 1’s previous stint in India has been associated with taxation and regulatory issues. India hosted the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida, from 2011 to 2013.

India subsequently hosted the MotoGP India round at the Buddh International Circuit in 2023, but MotoGP did not return to India in subsequent seasons.
