The 2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift has once again been spotted testing on Indian roads. The latest test mule was spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, where updates to the sedan’s front and rear design are more clearly visible than before.
The facelift of Volkswagen’s popular midsize sedan is expected to be introduced to the market around the festive season.

The camouflage in the latest prototype is primarily concentrated on the front and rear sections, while the side profile is largely exposed. This indicates that Volkswagen will make major changes with the facelift primarily to the bumpers, lighting elements, grille, and rear design.

2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Design: What will change?
The front profile, bonnet, and overall proportions appear to be similar to the current model. However, the headlamps, grille, and bumper are camouflaged, suggesting that these areas will receive updates.
Expected changes could include revised LED headlamp signatures, a redesigned grille, and an updated front bumper. Earlier test mules also indicated changes to the front air intake and lighting elements.
Changes to the rear profile are more noticeable. The boot and bumper area are heavily camouflaged, while a new horizontal LED element pattern is visible inside the tail lamps.
Earlier spy shots also revealed the possibility of a connected LED light bar, but based on the latest prototype, it is not confirmed whether the production-spec Virtus facelift will feature connected rear lighting.
No major changes are expected to the side profile. The doors, window line, roof, and overall silhouette will remain largely similar to the current Virtus. A new alloy wheel design could also be part of the facelift package.
Will the Virtus Facelift get a new 8-Speed Automatic?
The most significant expected update in the powertrain department could be an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine.
The current Virtus 1.0 TSI is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The facelift is expected to replace the 6-speed automatic with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox has already been introduced in other updated models of the Volkswagen-Skoda India 2.0 family.
The updated Skoda Slavia also officially introduces a segment-first 8-speed torque-converter automatic with the 1.0 TSI, while the 7-speed DSG continues with the 1.5 TSI. Therefore, there are strong expectations that a similar setup will arrive on the Virtus facelift.

The 2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift is expected to feature updates to the cabin and equipment list, along with an exterior refresh.
Potential changes could include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an updated infotainment system, additional convenience features, and a 360-degree camera. However, the exact feature distribution variant-wise will only be clear at launch.
The updated Slavia already features features like a 360-degree area view camera, six airbags, and a rear seat massage function. Therefore, Volkswagen could introduce similar equipment to the Virtus facelift, although this remains unconfirmed until the official launch.

The Volkswagen Virtus recorded sales of 1,301 units in August 2026. It surpassed the Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna, and Honda City in the midsize sedan segment.

However, Virtus sales in August were down 22.28% YoY. Slavia sales also declined 11.01% YoY, while the Hyundai Verna recorded a 31.39% YoY decline.
2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Launch Date
Volkswagen has not yet announced an official launch date for the facelift. Latest reports indicate a festive-season launch, and current testing activity also indicates that the debut may not be far away.
Skoda unveiled the updated Slavia on August 18, 2026, introducing new styling, an 8-speed automatic, and additional features. The Virtus facelift’s updates are also expected to be in line with this India 2.0 product family.
2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Price
The current Virtus is priced in the range of Rs. 10.49 lakh to Rs. 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). A slight increase in the facelift’s running price is expected due to the additional equipment and new transmission, but Volkswagen has not announced official pricing for the updated model.
