The upcoming Volkswagen SUV will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the India-specific architecture developed by Volkswagen Group with Indian and European engineering teams. This is the same platform used by Skoda for the Kylaq.
While Volkswagen has not revealed the name, engine options, features or pricing of the upcoming SUV, its positioning suggests that it could take on popular models such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Maruti Fronx.

Volkswagen Finally Enters the Sub-4-Metre SUV Segment
Volkswagen has been absent from the affordable compact SUV space despite the segment becoming increasingly important in India.
The company currently has SUVs such as the Taigun, Tayron and Tiguan R-Line in its portfolio, but the upcoming model will sit below them and target a much wider customer base.
The biggest advantage of the new SUV will be its sub-4-metre dimensions, which are important in India because of the tax structure for smaller cars.
This could also allow Volkswagen to adopt a more aggressive pricing strategy compared with its larger SUVs.
Based on the Same Platform as Skoda Kylaq
The upcoming Volkswagen SUV will use the MQB-A0-IN platform, which was specifically developed for the Indian market.
The architecture is already being used by Skoda for the Kylaq, giving Volkswagen access to a proven platform for its upcoming compact SUV.

Before that, the company is expected to continue updating its existing portfolio. The Virtus facelift is also expected to be part of Volkswagen India’s upcoming product activity.
At present, Volkswagen India’s SUV portfolio includes the Taigun, Tayron and Tiguan R-Line. The company also sells the Virtus sedan and Golf GTI hatchback.
