2027 Lexus RX Gets Nürburgring-Tuned Chassis Updates & New Features

Lexus has made some important chassis and feature updates to the 2027 Lexus RX to further refine the latest version of its popular luxury SUV.

Interestingly, Lexus used Germany’s famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit to fine-tune these updates. The company’s focus has been on improving the SUV’s stability, ride comfort and overall driving dynamics.

The Nürburgring is typically seen as a testing ground for high-performance sports cars, supercars and track-focused hatchbacks. But Lexus also used this challenging circuit in the development of a family-focused luxury SUV like the RX.

According to the company, the Nürburgring’s uneven surfaces, undulations, and changing road conditions helped engineers fine-tune the chassis’ behavior.

The main objective of the changes made to the 2027 Lexus RX chassis is to make the SUV more stable in high-speed conditions and more comfortable in everyday driving. Lexus refined the suspension and chassis tuning so that the vehicle’s response feels more linear and natural than before.

The challenging surface conditions of the Nürburgring Nordschleife give engineers the opportunity to evaluate the suspension and chassis behavior in different situations. According to Lexus, the RX’s stability and ride comfort have been improved through this testing.

These changes may not be immediately noticeable to a typical luxury SUV buyer, but for driving enthusiasts, the chassis tuning work is quite interesting. Lexus wants to not only make the RX a comfortable luxury SUV but also take its driving characteristics in a more refined direction.

New Front Door Glass with Heat Protection

In addition to the chassis updates, Lexus has also introduced some smaller but practical changes to the RX. The SUV’s front doors now feature new infrared-cut glass, which improves its ability to block heat.

This update can be especially beneficial in warm weather conditions, where reducing heat entering the cabin through direct sunlight is useful. Lexus has also added practical improvements of this type while maintaining the RX’s comfort-oriented character.

Updates to the Brake Hold Function

Lexus has also updated the RX’s Brake Hold function. A memory feature has been added to this function, making the system’s operation more convenient.

A digital rearview mirror is also available on the RX350 and RX350h variants. Front and rear dashcams have also been added to the standard equipment list.

These updates overall make the RX a carefully refined version rather than a major generation change, where Lexus has focused on technology and everyday convenience along with driving dynamics.

2027 Lexus RX Currently Japan-only

For now, Lexus has announced the updated RX only in Japan, and launch timing for other international markets has not been confirmed. Therefore, there is no confirmed information yet regarding the exact date of these updates in India or other markets.

In Japan, the RX range is available with multiple powertrain options. The entry-level RX350 is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 275 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It is offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The RX350 F Sport AWD is also available in the range, which is powered by the same 2.4-litre turbocharged engine producing 275 hp and 430 Nm.

RX350h Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Option

The Japan-spec RX350h combines a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with twin electric motors. This hybrid setup produces a combined output of 246 hp and 316 Nm. The RX350h is offered with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options.

A plug-in hybrid model is also part of the range. The source in the detailed pricing information lists it as the RX450+, featuring an upgraded 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain. This system has a combined output of 304 hp.

The flagship model of the range is the RX500h, which produces 366 hp and 550 Nm with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and hybrid assistance. This is the performance-focused hybrid option in the RX lineup.

Lexus Attempts to Make the RX More Refined

Overall, the changes to the 2027 Lexus RX focus on detailed refinement rather than a traditional facelift. Nürburgring testing has resulted in chassis tuning, improved heat-blocking front glass, an updated Brake Hold function, a digital rearview mirror, and standard dashcams, making the SUV a more polished package.

The most interesting aspect is that Lexus has fine-tuned the chassis of a luxury family SUV like the RX on a demanding circuit like the Nürburgring. Currently, this updated 2027 Lexus RX has been announced only for Japan, hence, the introduction of these changes in markets like India will have to wait for official confirmation from Lexus.
