The most direct benefit of local assembly comes in the form of lower ex-showroom pricing. A price reduction of Rs. 34 lakh makes a substantial difference in the premium SUV segment. Additionally, some features that were previously optional on fully imported models have been made standard on the India-made Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE variants.

The Defender has already been an important model for JLR India. According to the company, the Defender was its best-selling model in India in FY2026. To date, over 9,000 units of the Defender have been sold in India. Local assembly will allow the brand to offer its popular luxury SUV at a relatively accessible price point.

Features up to Rs. 6.5 lakh standard on the 2.0-liter petrol variant

The 2.0-liter turbo-petrol variant of the Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE is now available at Rs. Available for Rs. 99 lakh. In this India-assembled version, the company has made features worth up to Rs. 6.5 lakh as standard equipment, which were previously optional in the fully imported model.

This variant includes features like adaptive off-road cruise control, air suspension with adaptive dynamics, three-zone climate control, and an air purifier. Furthermore, a headlight washer, spare wheel lock, body-colored spare wheel cover, and manual third-row seats are also standard.

Front seats get heating, cooling, and memory functions along with 14-way electric adjustment. A front center console refrigerator is also standard equipment. These additions make the SUV feature-rich for daily driving, long-distance touring, and off-road use.

The equipment list has also been expanded for the 3.0-liter turbo-petrol and diesel versions of the Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE. These variants now offer standard features worth up to Rs. 17 lakh that were previously optional on the fully imported model.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch wheels, illuminated metal treadplates, and an electronic active differential with torque vectoring. The cabin also features manual slide and recline functions for the second-row seats, four-way manually adjustable winged headrests, and heated third-row seats.

In addition, features like a suede headliner, three-zone climate control with rear cooling, a Meridian surround sound system, and a head-up display are also part of the package. This way, buyers benefit from a lower ex-showroom price along with additional equipment.

Which Land Rover models are locally assembled in India?

Local assembly of the Land Rover Defender 110 expands JLR India’s existing manufacturing operations. The company already locally assembles the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, and Discovery Sport in India.

Select variants of the Defender 110 have now been added to this list. However, buyers should note that the local assembly benefit does not apply to the entire Defender range. The Defender 90, Defender 130, Octa, and 5.0-liter V8 models will remain imported.

Auto India Daily Verdict

Local assembly of the Land Rover Defender 110 has changed the pricing equation for buyers purchasing the luxury off-road SUV in India. The most significant change is a price cut of Rs. 34 lakh on the 3.0-liter petrol and diesel variants, while the 2.0-liter petrol variant is now available for Rs. 99 lakh. Additions to standard features also make the package more comprehensive.

However, the revised prices are currently limited to the X-Dynamic HSE variants. Buyers should confirm their preferred engine option, variant, and final on-road price with the dealership before booking, as the ex-showroom price does not include registration, insurance, and other applicable charges.
