Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Engine, Power, & Performance

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG is powered by a 1.2-liter mStallion G12 turbocharged MPFI engine. It can operate on both petrol and CNG fuels. According to the company’s launch-related specifications, the engine produces a maximum power of 114.5 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Peak torque is available between 1,500 rpm and 3,500 rpm.

The special feature of this powertrain is its turbocharged setup. Buyers generally consider CNG cars for low running costs, but the turbocharged engine has been used to maintain a performance-oriented driving experience. According to Mahindra, the SUV can achieve 0–60 km/h in 4.9 seconds and 0–100 km/h in 11.8 seconds.

The company has also highlighted the 10-bar injection pressure in the CNG system. Along with this, a turbocharger has been optimized for bi-fuel applications. This engineering approach tries to make performance practical even on CNG. Actual driving experience, however, may vary depending on traffic, load, and road conditions.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Claimed Mileage 24.7 km/kg

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG has a claimed fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg. Petrol and CNG fuel-economy displays were also shown at the launch presentation, but real-world mileage should not be judged solely by a single displayed reading. Actual efficiency will depend on city traffic, highway speed, AC usage, passengers, and driving style.

CNG’s potential advantage lies in fuel cost. If your daily driving is heavy, CNG may reduce running expenses compared to petrol. However, to calculate exact savings, it’s important to consider your monthly driving distance along with local petrol and CNG prices.

Dual-Cylinder CNG Setup Helps Preserve Boot Space

Luggage space is a common concern in CNG SUVs, as the cylinder can occupy a significant portion of the trunk. Mahindra has introduced a dual-cylinder arrangement in the XUV 3XO ZNG, with both cylinders positioned side-by-side below the trunk area.

The purpose of this arrangement is to make the trunk more usable. According to launch-related reports, the SUV offers approximately 270 liters of trunk space, while the spare wheel is positioned underneath the vehicle. This layout could be more practical for family trips and daily shopping than the conventional trunk-mounted single-cylinder setup. Nevertheless, buyers should check actual trunk usability with their luggage.

Features and Safety Equipment

The overall cabin layout of the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG is similar to that of the regular XUV 3XO. It features a dual-tone dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and multifunction steering wheel.

Depending on the variant, the equipment list includes features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, connected LED taillights, and leatherette upholstery.

For safety, the SUV comes with features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, seatbelt reminders, and all-four disc brakes. Mahindra highlights 35 standard safety features. Fuel selection and CNG level information in the CNG system are also important for daily use. Buyers should confirm the exact equipment list of their selected variant before booking.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Rivals

In the Indian market, the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG will compete with models like the Tata Nexon i-CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG. Compared to these rivals, Mahindra’s turbocharged CNG engine and dual-cylinder packaging are key talking points.

But the final buying decision shouldn’t be based solely on mileage or starting price. Buyers should compare variant-wise features, boot usability, local fuel availability, service access, and their monthly running costs. The CNG option may be more relevant for those who drive regularly and want to reduce petrol running costs.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG brings a useful powertrain alternative to the compact SUV segment. A starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh, 200 Nm torque, a claimed 24.7 km/kg efficiency, and a dual-cylinder CNG layout set it apart from conventional CNG options. The turbocharged engine approach may also attract buyers who don’t want to completely compromise on performance with CNG.

Still, the final verdict will depend on actual running costs, variant-wise equipment, and real-world mileage. If your monthly running expenses are high and you need an SUV-style cabin and features, the XUV 3XO ZNG is worth shortlisting. Before booking, be sure to test drive, check boot space, and compare on-road prices with your city.
