Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift: Rear Seats Get More Luxury

The biggest selling point of the Maybach S-Class is the rear-seat experience, and the facelift has also focused on this area.

Executive rear seats are able to recline up to 43 degrees, compared with 38 degrees in the standard S-Class. Heating, ventilation and massage functions also continue in the rear seats.

Mercedes has replaced the previous tablet-style controller with two smartphone-style handheld remotes. These can be used by rear passengers to control functions such as air-conditioning, seats and entertainment.

The updated Maybach S-Class is available in international markets with multiple powertrain options. The S 580 features an updated 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 537 hp and 750 Nm. The S 580e plug-in hybrid is also available in selected markets, with a 3.0-liter inline-six petrol engine and an electric motor, developing 585 hp and 750 Nm.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift brings an important update for Mercedes-Benz in the luxury car segment. The new illuminated grille, Superscreen-style cabin, upgraded rear-seat experience, MB.OS technology and expanded personalization make this facelift considerably more modern than the current model.

But the biggest question for Indian buyers will be the price and powertrain. The current S 580 already starts at Rs. 2.87 crore ex-showroom, so it’s possible for the updated Maybach to go into the Rs. 3 crore+ territory. The final answer will be revealed at the launch event today.
