New Mitsubishi Pajero to Get Triton-Based Platform
Unlike the previous Pajero, the new-generation model will be based on a ladder-frame architecture derived from the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. However, Mitsubishi is expected to make several model-specific changes to the chassis and suspension setup to give the SUV a more comfortable and refined character.
The ladder-frame construction should also help the Pajero retain its traditional off-road capability. Mitsubishi has confirmed that the SUV will feature its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, along with multiple drive modes designed for different surfaces and driving conditions.

Mitsubishi has released several teasers ahead of the September 2 unveiling, giving us a preview of the SUV’s overall design. The new Pajero is expected to feature a boxy silhouette, upright proportions and a strong SUV stance, staying relatively close to the rugged character associated with the nameplate.
The teaser images also reveal modern LED lighting elements and black alloy wheels. The overall design is expected to be more sophisticated than the previous-generation Pajero while retaining the visual toughness required for a flagship off-roader.
The company appears keen to ensure that the new SUV doesn’t lose its identity in the transition to a modern-generation model.
New Pajero Interior to Get a Major Technology Upgrade
While the exterior will retain the Pajero’s rugged character, the cabin is expected to represent a much bigger step forward.
Mitsubishi has teased a more premium interior featuring multiple digital displays and modern connectivity features. The SUV is also expected to feature saddle-coloured perforated leather upholstery with black inserts, giving the cabin a more upmarket appearance.
Interestingly, Mitsubishi is also bringing some design inspiration from the Pajero’s history. The new model is expected to feature triple digital gauges inspired by previous generations, combining the nameplate’s heritage with modern digital technology.

New Mitsubishi Pajero Diesel & Hybrid Powertrains Expected
Mitsubishi has not yet disclosed the complete engine lineup for the fifth-generation Mitsubishi Pajero. However, reports suggest that the SUV could be offered with turbodiesel and hybrid powertrain options.
The exact engine specifications, transmission options and performance figures will be revealed closer to or during the global debut.
The new Pajero is expected to focus heavily on four-wheel-drive capability, with Mitsubishi’s S-AWC system playing an important role in its off-road credentials.
Will the New Pajero Come to India?
At present, Mitsubishi has not confirmed an India launch for the new Pajero. The SUV will reportedly be manufactured in Thailand alongside the Triton pickup, which could potentially make right-hand-drive markets easier to serve.
Interestingly, Mitsubishi has also not confirmed a launch for the new Pajero in the US. Mitsubishi Motors North America has stated that a decision regarding the SUV’s introduction there has not yet been made.
For India, the company would need to carefully evaluate pricing, localisation and competition before bringing the flagship SUV to our market.
