The new Terrano is quite different from the previous India-spec Terrano. This time, Nissan has developed a boxy plug-in hybrid SUV, targeted at markets like China, ASEAN, and the Middle East.

What’s changed in the production Nissan Terrano PHEV?

The production-spec Terrano has some subtle changes to its exterior compared to the model previewed at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
The SUV spotted features:
- Revised headlight housing
- Slightly updated front-end elements
- New alloy wheel design
- Shorter rear spare-wheel arm
- Boxy overall silhouette
The overall design character still appears quite close to the concept. The SUV’s upright stance and squared-off bodywork give it a distinct personality from traditional urban crossovers.
Where is the Nissan Terrano PHEV’s design inspired?

The new Nissan Terrano PHEV overall design draws inspiration from the Nissan NX8 SUV. It combines upright proportions, muscular body surfaces, and rugged-looking styling.
The most interesting element is its boxy profile, which isn’t a direct visual continuation of the old Terrano nameplate, but gives the SUV a strong road presence.
The rear-mounted spare wheel also gives it a more rugged SUV character than a conventional crossover.

Nissan Terrano PHEV Powertrain: What’s known?

Nissan has not yet officially revealed the Terrano PHEV’s complete technical specifications.
However, due to its plug-in hybrid setup, it will be positioned in the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) category. Expectedly, the SUV could also have a meaningful range for electric-only driving.
Current expectations suggest the Terrano PHEV could have an EV-only range of at least 100 km. Combined range exceeding 1,000 km is also possible.

In which markets will the Nissan Terrano PHEV arrive?

The new Terrano has been developed in China, and Nissan has developed it keeping in mind the requirements of the Chinese, ASEAN, and Middle East markets.
Nissan’s partnership with Chinese automaker Dongfeng also plays an important role in this project.
International spotting of a production-spec model indicates that the SUV has moved beyond the development phase.

Will the new Nissan Terrano come to India?
Nissan has not yet confirmed an India launch.
However, the Terrano name is already familiar to Indian buyers. The previous Nissan Terrano gained considerable attention in India as a Nissan-branded version of the first-generation Renault Duster.
The new PHEV Terrano isn’t a direct replacement for that model, and its design is completely different. Nevertheless, the familiar nameplate could make this SUV a halo model in India.
If Nissan does showcase it in India, its primary purpose could be to highlight the brand’s electrified and premium SUV technology rather than an immediate launch.

The production-spec spotting of the Nissan Terrano PHEV is interesting, as Nissan is taking a familiar Indian nameplate in a completely different direction.
