The Skoda Kylaq has established a strong presence in the Indian market and now the company is preparing to expand this compact SUV with a new CNG powertrain.

The company has not yet announced a launch date or final specifications, but statements from a senior Skoda India executive make the company’s planning regarding its CNG strategy quite clear.
If the Skoda Kylaq enters the market as a CNG production version, it will directly compete with compact SUVs that are already available with CNG powertrains. This list includes models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG and Tata Nexon CNG.
The Kylaq’s biggest differentiator could be its turbo-petrol-based CNG setup, as the company is working on adapting its existing performance-oriented engine technology to CNG.

Skoda Kylaq CNG: What is the company planning?
Skoda India brand director Ashish Gupta stated in August 2026 that the company was evaluating the 1.0-liter engine and MQB-A0-IN platform for a CNG powertrain. This platform is used in the Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia, so the company has the scope to introduce CNG technology on multiple models.
A major reason for Skoda’s focus on CNG is the changing fuel preferences in the Indian market. The company has indicated that it is aggressively developing its CNG strategy in India. This means that Kylaq CNG is not being viewed merely as an experimental idea, but rather that the company may incorporate this technology into its India-specific product strategy.
The exact launch timeline has not yet been officially confirmed. Reports have suggested a 2027 timeframe, but until Skoda announces an India production model, bookings, or launch date, this should be considered an expected timeline.
Will CNG be available with the 1.0-liter turbo engine?
The current Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 999cc, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces 115hp of maximum power and 178Nm of peak torque. The SUV is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.
There is a possibility of adapting this 1.0-liter TSI engine for a CNG version. Skoda has also indicated that a reduction of around 10-15 percent in power output on CNG fuel compared to the petrol version could be acceptable.
This means that the Skoda Kylaq CNG version’s performance will not be as strong as the petrol Kylaq, but the company will largely want to maintain the character of the turbocharged engine.
An important point to note here is that the final power, torque, and gearbox specifications of the CNG Kylaq have not yet been officially confirmed. Therefore, it would not be correct to mention any exact power figure as a production-spec number at this time.

What could be the expected mileage?
The main reason for introducing a Skoda Kylaq CNG version would be fuel economy and running costs. The ARAI-claimed mileage of the current petrol Kylaq is between 19.05kmpl and 19.68kmpl depending on the gearbox.
Fuel costs on CNG could be significantly lower, especially for buyers who commute daily in the city or do high monthly driving.
Market reports have discussed mileage expectations around 22-24kmpl for the Kylaq CNG, but Skoda has not yet announced an official CNG mileage figure. Final mileage will depend on engine calibration, CNG tank capacity, kerb weight, and testing conditions.
Being a turbocharged CNG engine, real-world efficiency will also vary depending on driving conditions. Therefore, it will be more accurate to compare mileage only after the official ARAI figures are released.
What will be included in the features?
The Skoda Kylaq’s existing equipment package is likely to be largely carried forward to the Skoda Kylaq CNG version. The current SUV offers features like a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and leatherette upholstery.
Safety is also an important selling point for the Kylaq. The SUV received a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP testing, and the standard equipment list includes features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-hold control, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
The company will also have to make engineering compromises with boot space in the Skoda Kylaq CNG version, as the CNG cylinder requires additional space. Skoda will reveal the exact solution for tank placement and boot capacity in the final production model at launch.
Skoda Kylaq CNG Expected Price
The current Skoda Kylaq ex-showroom price is between Rs. 7.59 lakh and Rs. 12.99 lakh.
Due to the addition of CNG technology, the Skoda Kylaq CNG could be priced premium over petrol variants. If the company keeps it competitive, the expected starting price could be roughly around Rs. 9 lakh. Higher variants could be priced above this. However, this is just an estimated positioning and Skoda has not confirmed the pricing of the CNG model.
There is also a possibility that the CNG version will get a manual gearbox. Earlier reports also suggested the possibility of the Skoda Kylaq CNG being introduced with a manual-only setup, although the final transmission choice will be confirmed by the company.
