The Safari EV is being developed on the Harrier EV’s acti.ev+ architecture. Therefore, the upcoming electric SUV is likely to share a significant portion of Tata’s existing EV powertrain and technology package. The Safari EV is also expected to offer both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.

Tata Safari EV 2026 Will Get 65kWh & 75kWh Battery Options
The Tata Safari EV 2026 is expected to share battery technology with the Harrier EV. According to current reports, the SUV could be offered with 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs.
The Harrier EV is available with a 65kWh battery in RWD configuration, and a 75kWh battery in RWD as well as an AWD setup. The Safari EV will be a larger and heavier three-row SUV, so its claimed range is likely to be slightly lower than the Harrier EV.
A target of around 500km of real-world range is possible, especially with the larger 75kWh battery. However, Tata has not yet revealed the official range figure for the Safari EV, so this should be treated as an expectation rather than a confirmed specification.
Dual-Motor AWD Could Be the Top-Performance Option
The biggest highlight of the Tata Safari EV 2026 could be its dual-motor AWD setup. All-wheel drive configuration with front and rear electric motors is expected in higher variants, while a single-motor setup is likely to serve as the more affordable option.
The AWD version of the Harrier EV is available with a 75kWh battery, making the same configuration a logical choice for the larger Safari EV. The additional motor should provide stronger acceleration and better traction, particularly on loose surfaces and challenging terrain.
Looking at Tata’s existing electric SUV technology, multiple terrain modes are also expected in the Safari EV. Features like Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom modes can be carried over from Harrier EV.
Triple-Screen Dashboard Could Be a Major Highlight
The cabin of the Tata Safari EV 2026 could also be much more technology-focused than the current Safari. Recent spy reports suggest that Tata could introduce a triple-screen dashboard, similar to the setup already seen on the Sierra EV.
The expected layout could feature a large central infotainment display, digital instrument cluster and a dedicated passenger-side screen. However, Tata has not officially confirmed the exact screen sizes or final triple-screen configuration for the Safari EV yet.
The electric SUV is also expected to benefit from Tata’s newer TiDAL electrical architecture, which enables features such as OTA updates, advanced surround-view camera functionality, improved Level 2 ADAS, auto-park assist and summon functionality on other Tata EVs.

V2L and V2V Charging Could Also Be Offered
Bidirectional charging technology is also expected in Safari EV. Tata’s newer EVs, including the Sierra EV, offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities.
V2L technology allows external electrical equipment to be powered from the SUV’s battery, while V2V technology provides the capability to transfer energy to a compatible EV.
Other expected features could include powered and ventilated front seats, ventilated second-row captain seats, a panoramic sunroof, gesture-controlled tailgate and a more advanced driver-assistance package.
Safari EV Design: Expect Evolution Rather Than a Completely New SUV
The basic proportions of the current ICE Safari have been retained in the design of the Safari EV. Recent test sightings also indicate that Tata may be following the approach of electrifying the existing Safari’s overall shape.
Expected changes could include a closed-off front grille area, revised bumpers, EV-specific badging, and aerodynamic alloy wheels. Dimensions are likely to be largely similar to the ICE Safari.
Tata Safari EV 2026 Launch Date & Expected Price
The Tata Safari EV 2026 is planned to launch in India around the 2026 festive season. According to Autocar India, Tata was preparing to begin production in August 2026, ahead of the festive-season launch.
Some reports have pointed towards an October-November window, although Tata has not yet announced an exact launch date.
As for pricing, the Safari EV is expected to fall in the ex-showroom range of around ₹22.5 lakh to ₹30 lakh. Final pricing will vary depending on battery, drivetrain, and variant.
