The all-electric SUV will bring the familiar Tiguan name into Volkswagen’s EV portfolio and is scheduled to reach international markets from early 2027.

The new electric SUV will be sold alongside the conventional Tiguan, which will continue with combustion and hybrid powertrains in global markets. Volkswagen has also confirmed that the ID Tiguan will take over the role currently occupied by the ID.4 and ID.5 in its electric SUV lineup.

Volkswagen ID Tiguan Gets Completely New Design
The Volkswagen ID Tiguan will feature a completely redesigned exterior compared with the outgoing ID.4 and ID.5. Volkswagen says the new electric SUV has been developed with a visual presence that makes it appear like a vehicle from the next segment up.
The SUV gets slimmer lighting elements at the front, a redesigned grille area and a new rear-light signature. Larger alloy wheels, expected to go up to 21 inches, will further enhance its road presence.
In terms of dimensions, the new model is expected to offer a more spacious cabin than the ID.4. The ID Tiguan is around 44mm longer than the ID.4, which should help Volkswagen extract additional passenger and luggage space from the electric SUV.
The increased length is also part of Volkswagen’s attempt to position the model as a more practical family EV rather than simply a replacement for the existing ID.4.
More Spacious Interior With Physical Controls
Volkswagen has not revealed every production-spec interior detail yet, but the company has highlighted generous interior space, intuitive operation and new technology as key elements of the ID Tiguan.
One interesting change expected with the new model is a greater use of physical controls. Volkswagen’s newer electric models have faced criticism for relying heavily on touch-sensitive controls, and the ID Tiguan is expected to bring back some conventional buttons.
The steering wheel is expected to feature physical controls, while the dashboard could also get a separate set of buttons or switches for frequently used functions.
The overall cabin is expected to focus on a more premium and spacious layout, with updated infotainment and digital technology.
Volkswagen ID Tiguan Battery & Range
The Volkswagen ID Tiguan will be based on an evolution of Volkswagen’s MEB+ electric vehicle platform. The same architecture also underpins newer members of Volkswagen Group’s EV family.
According to current reports, the production SUV is expected to continue with battery options similar to those offered with the ID.4, including 58kWh and 77kWh packs. However, Volkswagen has not yet officially confirmed the final battery specifications for the production ID Tiguan.
The smaller battery is expected to be positioned in the entry-level version, while the larger battery could be offered with higher variants. A dual-motor Pro 4Motion version is also expected, although final power and range figures are still awaited.
For reference, the existing ID.4’s 58kWh battery is rated for up to around 364km of WLTP range, while the 77kWh battery offers up to around 512–572km depending on the version. These figures should not be treated as confirmed ID Tiguan specifications.

Volkswagen ID Tiguan to Replace ID.4 and ID.5
One of the biggest changes is Volkswagen’s decision to bring the Tiguan nameplate into the electric range. The company has confirmed that the ID Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5, while the conventional Tiguan continues to serve buyers looking for combustion and hybrid powertrains.
This means Volkswagen will effectively have two different Tiguan models serving different powertrain preferences. The electric ID Tiguan will target EV buyers, while the regular Tiguan will continue with petrol, diesel and hybrid options in markets where those powertrains are offered.

The company is expected to reveal the complete technical specifications, power outputs, battery capacities, range figures and market-wise availability around the world premiere in early October.
For Indian buyers, the model could be an interesting future addition to Volkswagen’s premium EV portfolio, but more information about local plans will be required before making any India-specific claim.
