BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations: 1,500kW Network Expands Rapidly

The race for EV charging infrastructure in China has reached a new level. BYD has announced that the company has installed 10,000 chargers at its 1.5MW (1,500kW) Flash Charging stations.

The most interesting thing is that the milestone of BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations has been achieved just a few months after the technology was unveiled.

BYD introduced its 1,500kW Flash Charging technology in March 2026. The company had then announced an ambitious target of installing 20,000 chargers by the end of 2026. Now, with BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations completed, It has covered halfway to its year-end target.

BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations: Network Reaches 325 Cities

BYD reported installing around 5,000 Flash Chargers as of April 1. This number has now increased to 10,000.

The current network covers 325 cities in China. The company plans to install approximately 18,000 urban chargers and 2,000 highway chargers by year-end.

If the current pace of installation is maintained, it seems possible for BYD to achieve its 20,000-charger target.

How Fast Is 1,500kW Charging?

BYD’s Flash Charging technology focuses on taking EV charging from minutes to extremely short charging times.

The company claims that charging its Blade 2.0 battery from 10-70% takes approximately 5 minutes. Charging from 10-97% is also claimed to take approximately 9 minutes.

The important point here is that ultra-fast charging of a battery alone is not sufficient. To deliver such high charging power to that battery, compatible charging infrastructure is also required.

For this reason, BYD is rapidly expanding its high-power charging network.

BYD Is Building Chargers With Sinopec

BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations milestone event in China, marking the installation of the company’s 10,000th ultra-fast EV charging station.

BYD is also partnering with Sinopec, China’s state-owned oil company, to expand its charging network.

BYD’s Flash Chargers are being installed at selected Sinopec fuel stations. The advantage of this strategy is that existing fuel-station locations can be converted into EV fast-charging hubs.

Expanding charging infrastructure on highways and urban locations can provide BYD EV owners with faster charging access during long-distance travel.

BYD Plans 6,000 More Chargers Overseas

BYD’s Flash Charging expansion will not be limited to China.

The company also plans to install charging stations in overseas markets. It plans to install approximately 3,000 chargers in Europe and another 3,000 chargers in other international markets.

BYD’s first overseas Flash Charging station is scheduled to open in June 2026.

What About the US?

Currently, there are no confirmed plans to launch BYD’s 1,500kW Flash Charging technology in the US market.

Tesla’s Supercharger network is one of the largest charging infrastructure networks in the US, but BYD’s 1.5MW system targets a significantly higher output in terms of charging power.

Tesla has introduced 500kW charging capability for its V4 Superchargers, which is roughly one-third the rated power of BYD’s 1,500kW system.

However, the actual charging speed does not depend only on the maximum power of the charger. Battery architecture, vehicle compatibility, charging curve, thermal management and grid capacity are also major factors.

The EV Charging Race Is Getting Serious

BYD’s milestone of 10,000 ultra-fast chargers clearly shows how rapidly EV charging infrastructure is evolving in China.

While 20-30 minutes of charging is considered fast today, Chinese manufacturers are already targeting single-digit-minute charging. Companies like Geely and CATL are also developing ultra-fast charging technologies.

The milestone of BYD 10000 Flash Charging Stations isn’t just an infrastructure number—it shows how quickly EV charging technology is moving toward ultra-short charging stops.

If 5-minute-class charging is successfully deployed with large-scale public infrastructure, the biggest concern of EV ownership—charging time—could be significantly reduced.

But to make 1,500kW charging practical, compatible batteries, high-capacity grids, and widespread charging infrastructure will be equally important. The speed with which BYD has built its network in China is definitely a major development for the global EV charging race.
