Audi has revived the iconic A2 nameplate after more than two decades, but this time it returns as an all-electric compact hatchback.
Called the New Audi A2 E-Tron, the new EV combines unconventional proportions, a strong focus on aerodynamics and a claimed range of up to 401 miles under the WLTP cycle.
The A2 E-Tron is scheduled to arrive in Europe in late 2026, with prices starting at €38,200 (approx Rs. 41.9 lakh) in Germany. Audi has specifically developed the electric hatchback around the needs of European customers.
Still, the new electric hatchback is an interesting look at how Audi is approaching smaller and more efficient EVs.

New Audi A2 E-Tron: Up to 401 Miles of Claimed Range
The New Audi A2 E-Tron will be available with three battery sizes — 52.0kWh, 61.0kWh and 84.0kWh — and four different power outputs.
The range-topping version produces 322 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.7 seconds.

The 401-mile figure is based on the WLTP test cycle, so it should not be directly compared with an EPA range rating used for US-market EVs.
New Audi A2 E-Tron Is All About Aerodynamic Efficiency
Audi has focused heavily on aerodynamics while developing the new A2 E-Tron.
The compact EV has a claimed drag coefficient of just 0.24, making it one of the most aerodynamic compact models in Audi’s lineup.
Several design elements contribute to this figure, including:
- Nearly enclosed underbody
- Active front air intakes
- Aerodynamic wheels
- Wheel arches designed to reduce turbulence
- Reduced gaps around the wheel openings
- Electrically operated wing-shaped door handles
The New Audi A2 E-Tron measures 170.1 inches long, 70.5 inches wide and 61.0 inches tall, with a 109.1-inch wheelbase.
Despite its compact dimensions, Audi says the interior has been designed to provide the kind of space normally associated with a larger vehicle.
New Audi A2 E-Tron Gets a High-Tech Interior
Inside, Audi has used a design theme called Softwrap, with fabric-covered surfaces stretching across the dashboard and into the door panels.
The driver gets an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus display, while the center of the dashboard houses a 12.8-inch curved MMI touchscreen.
The infotainment system includes Audi’s AI-powered assistant, an E-Tron route planner and connected services.
Audi has also moved the gear selector to the steering column, freeing up additional storage space around the center console.

Wireless Charging Can Handle Two Phones
One of the more interesting cabin features is the A2 E-Tron’s wireless charging system.
The Qi 2.2-compatible charging pad can charge two smartphones simultaneously at up to 25 watts, with active cooling designed to maintain charging performance.
The car also introduces Audi’s Fidlock attachment system as standard in the premium segment. It uses magnets combined with mechanical locking, allowing accessories such as cupholders and bags to be attached inside the cabin.
An optional panoramic glass roof provides around 17.2 square feet of glass area.
Up to 47.2 Cubic Feet of Cargo Space
Despite its compact footprint, the A2 E-Tron offers a surprisingly flexible cargo area.
The standard cargo area provides 14.0 cubic feet of storage, which expands to 47.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.
The 228-hp and 322-hp versions also get a small 0.5-cubic-foot front trunk.
Rear-Wheel Drive and Up to 322 HP
All A2 E-Tron variants use permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors driving the rear wheels.
Power outputs range from 168 hp to 322 hp, depending on the battery and configuration.
The quickest model is the 322-hp version, which reaches 62 mph in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 124 mph.
The other variants have a top speed of 99 mph.
Fast Charging and V2L Capability
The more powerful A2 E-Tron variants support DC fast charging at up to 183kW.
Audi says a 10-80 percent charge takes between 24 and 29 minutes, depending on the configuration.
The EV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing it to supply electricity to compatible external devices.
In markets where the technology is supported, the New Audi A2 E-Tron can also provide Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, allowing the vehicle to send energy back to a home.
How Much Does the New Audi A2 E-Tron Cost?
In Germany, the New Audi A2 E-Tron starts at €38,200 (approximately Rs. 41.9 lakh) for the 125kW version with a 52kWh battery.
The 61kWh version is priced from €41,900 (approximately Rs. 46.0 lakh), while the 170kW version with an 84kWh battery costs €48,900 (approximately Rs. 53.7 lakh).
At the top of the range, the 240kW version is priced at €51,200 (approximately Rs. 56.2 lakh) in Germany.
Audi will begin accepting orders in Germany from September 10, 2026, with first deliveries scheduled to start in December 2026.

Will the New Audi A2 E-Tron Come to India?
The New Audi A2 E-Tron has been developed primarily with European customers in mind, and Audi has not yet announced an India launch for the electric hatchback. The model will open for orders in Europe from September 10, 2026, with first deliveries scheduled to begin in December 2026.
However, an India launch could be considered later, especially as the A2 E-Tron is positioned as Audi’s entry-level electric model. Some reports have pointed towards a possible India introduction in 2027, but Audi has not confirmed any launch timeline for the Indian market.
If launched in India, the A2 E-Tron could give Audi a more accessible EV offering below its current electric lineup. For now, there is no official India launch date or confirmation from Audi.
