Porsche 718 Boxster EV Spotted Almost Camouflage-Free: 2027 Launch Ahead

Porsche’s upcoming electric sports car has been spotted testing once again, and this time the prototype has its cleanest look yet.

The 2027 Porsche 718 Boxster EV spotted testing at the Nürburgring was seen with only limited covers around the headlights and fake taillight graphics on the rear section.

This fresh sighting has significantly clarified the production design of the new-generation electric Boxster. There have been significant delays and uncertainty surrounding the Porsche 718 EV project over the past few years, but the company confirmed in August 2026 that the electric 718 program has not been cancelled.

Porsche 718 Boxster EV Gets Production-Ready Look

The overall silhouette of the Nürburgring prototype appears familiar to the current-generation 718 Boxster, but noticeable changes have been made to the front and rear sections. The car features revised headlights and new rear lighting elements, while a major portion of the bodywork is now visible without camouflage.

The rear profile may feature a Porsche 911-inspired lighting treatment. The taillight graphics visible on the test car may include some camouflage elements, so full confirmation of the final production lighting design will only come after the official reveal.

800V Architecture Expected

Porsche has not yet revealed the complete technical specifications of the 718 EV. However, current reports suggest the electric sports car is expected to feature an 800V electrical architecture, which will be crucial for high-speed DC charging capabilities. Single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions are also expected.

The 718 EV’s power output, battery capacity, and official driving range figures have not yet been confirmed. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to mention any specific horsepower or battery number as a final specification at this time.

Electric Cayman and Boxster Will Arrive

Porsche’s new electric 718 family won’t be limited to just the Boxster convertible. A hardtop version of the 718 Cayman EV is also in development, and spy shots of it have already surfaced. Both models will continue Porsche’s traditional entry-level sports car positioning in the electric era.

Porsche originally planned to launch the electric 718 models around 2025, but due to development delays the timeline got pushed back significantly. Latest reports now point towards production in 2027, although exact reveal and market launch dates are still not officially announced.

718 EV Design Still Looks Like a Proper Porsche

Despite the electric powertrain, Porsche has largely maintained the low-slung sports car proportions of the 718 Boxster. Long, low bonnet, compact cabin and wide stance give the convertible the traditional Porsche roadster identity.

In the fresh spy shots, the aerodynamic elements of the front bumper and smooth surfaces of the body are also clearly visible. Despite the EV architecture, Porsche has retained the familiar sports-car proportions rather than making the design overly futuristic.

Porsche 718 Boxster EV Launch Timeline

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters confirmed in August 2026 that the electric 718 sports car program is active. Earlier reports suggested the model could arrive late in 2027, while the latest near-production prototype has raised expectations of an official reveal soon.

Now Porsche has not announced the official world premiere date. However, 2027 production timeline looks increasingly realistic, especially with the prototype now appearing close to its final production form.

What About a Petrol-Powered 718?

Interesting thing is that Porsche’s next-generation 718 family is not going to be completely electric. The company has also indicated to be working on combustion powertrains for top-performance derivatives, although their exact launch timing and technical details remain unclear.

This means there is also a possibility of select high-performance combustion variants along with the electric Boxster and Cayman in the future 718 lineup.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The latest spy sighting of the 2027 Porsche 718 Boxster EV brings development to an interesting stage. The almost camouflage-free prototype clearly indicates that Porsche has brought the electric roadster very close to production.

The most important thing now is its official reveal, where Porsche will confirm details like battery capacity, power output, range, charging performance, and final design.
