Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Spied Again, Roxx-Style Rear Design Revealed

The Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Spied on Indian roads once again, and this time, the latest spy shots reveal the SUV’s rear section quite clearly.

The test mule has been spotted with heavy camouflage, but despite the camouflage, some design elements of the tail-lamp area, rear bumper, spare-wheel setup, and side body can be noticed.

The latest images show the Thar’s familiar boxy silhouette largely unchanged. However, some styling revisions are expected in the rear section, which could visually differentiate the upcoming facelift from the current 3-door Thar.

What’s visible in the spy shots?

The latest Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Spied images show the SUV being road tested. Black-and-white camouflage has been applied around the rear glass, rear quarter, and bumper areas, so the exact production design is not yet fully revealed.

The most noticeable element is the vertically positioned rear tail lamps. The overall lamp placement appears familiar, but there is the possibility of changes in the internal lighting details. Previous spy shots also showed updated LED tail-lamp detailing, which could be inspired by the Thar Roxx.

The rear-mounted spare wheel remains in its familiar position, while the tailgate design around it appears largely similar to the existing Thar.

Changes to the Rear Bumper

In the supplied Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Spied images, a large portion of the rear bumper is covered in camouflage. Therefore, it is not yet possible to fully confirm the final bumper design.

However, visible test mules indicate styling revisions to the bumper and lower rear section. These changes will be part of the facelift’s overall refreshed appearance.

The high-mounted brake lamp area is also visible in the test mule, while the exact production-spec treatment remains hidden under camouflage.

Styling Inspiration to Come from the Thar Roxx

Mahindra is preparing to bring the upcoming 3-door Thar visually closer to the Thar Roxx. Earlier spy shots revealed elements like Roxx-inspired circular LED projector headlamps, C-shaped DRLs, and a redesigned grille.

The latest rear spy shots also support this design direction, although the rear changes appear relatively subtle compared to the front-end.

Importantly, not every test mule has the exact same grille/design. Earlier prototypes were spotted with a six-slot Roxx-like grille, while another test mule also featured a five-slot arrangement. Therefore, the final production-spec design will only be confirmed at launch.

New Alloy Wheels Also Spotted

From the side/rear angle, the latest test mule also shows new-design alloy wheels. The wheel design appears different from the existing Thar and could be part of the facelift’s exterior updates.

The body’s overall upright stance, square wheel arches, and compact three-door proportions, however, appear largely unchanged. This means Mahindra is retaining the current Thar’s identity while giving the exterior a more updated look.

No Major Engine Changes Expected

Despite the design-focused facelift, major changes to the powertrain are not expected. Current reports suggest the updated Thar 3-door could continue with the existing petrol and diesel engine lineup.

The current lineup includes a 1.5-liter diesel, a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Automatic transmission and 4WD options are also available with the larger petrol and diesel engines, while the 1.5-liter diesel is offered in a RWD configuration.

Therefore, the focus of the upcoming model is expected to primarily be on styling, equipment, and feature updates.

Cabin Updates May Also Occur

In addition to the exterior, some upgrades are also expected in the cabin. Recent reports indicate the possibility of features like a TFT instrument cluster, automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, and additional parking/safety equipment.

Features like Level-2 ADAS have also been reported in higher variants, but their final availability should not be considered a confirmed feature without official confirmation from Mahindra.

Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Launch

The Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift is expected to launch around the end of September 2026/next week. India Today reported on September 14th that the launch timing was late in September.

Exact details will be confirmed once Mahindra officially announces the final launch date and complete variant-wise specifications.

How Much Could the Price Be?

A slight increase in the price of the Thar 3-door with the facelift is expected, though final pricing will be revealed at launch. According to Autocar India, the current Thar 3-door’s ex-showroom price is approximately between Rs. 10.32 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh.

Due to the additional features and styling updates in the facelift, a slight premium over the existing range is possible.

What stands out most from the latest Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Spied images is the subtle refresh of the rear design. Vertically stacked tail lamps, revised detailing, a camouflaged bumper, and new alloy wheels are clearly visible, while the spare-wheel-mounted tailgate and overall boxy silhouette remain familiar.

Judging by earlier spy shots of the front side, the upcoming Thar 3-door is expected to receive Thar Roxx-inspired design language. A clear picture of the full extent of the changes in the final production model will be available only at launch.
