New JSW Combat SUV to Debut on December 4: 360hp Plug-in Hybrid Expected

JSW Motors is preparing to enter the Indian automotive market as a standalone brand. The company will unveil its first SUV, the new JSW Combat, on 4 December 2026. It will be a 5-seater plug-in hybrid SUV, based on the Chery Jetour T2 sold in the international market.

With a rugged design, boxy styling and petrol-electric powertrain, the JSW Combat could become a new option in the Indian SUV market.

The entry of the new JSW Combat is significant for the company as it will mark the beginning of JSW Motors’ independent passenger vehicle journey. The SUV is expected to be assembled at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra. Reports and spy shots that surfaced in September also revealed several details about the name and design of this upcoming SUV.

JSW Combat SUV: Expected Powertrain and Range

The biggest highlight of the new JSW Combat could be its plug-in hybrid powertrain. The India-spec model is expected to feature a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, an 18.4 kWh battery pack, and two electric motors. This setup could work with a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

Expected specifications suggest a combined output of approximately 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque. Power is likely to be transferred to the front wheels, meaning the SUV could feature a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. However, JSW Motors is yet to confirm the final technical details of the India-spec model.

The JSW Combat could be an interesting package in terms of range. Its claimed electric-only range is expected to be around 90km as per the NEDC cycle. However, with a full fuel tank and a charged battery, its combined driving range could be up to 1,100km.

If these figures are achieved in the production model, buyers will be able to use the electric mode for daily city commutes, while the petrol engine will be required for long-distance journeys. However, the actual range may vary depending on driving style, traffic, weather, and charging conditions.

New JSW Combat Design: Boxy Styling Like the Jetour T2

New JSW Combat SUV rear design with tailgate-mounted spare wheel, vertical LED tail lights and rugged bumper

In terms of design, the new JSW Combat’s overall look is expected to be similar to the international-market Jetour T2. The SUV is expected to share elements like an upright front profile, squared-off body shape, and muscular wheel arches. Spy shots suggest that the India-spec model may also see some revisions to the headlights and front and rear bumpers.

The Jetour branding on the front section is likely to be replaced by JSW Combat badging. Apart from this, elements like 20-inch alloy wheels, prominent body cladding, roof rails and tailgate-mounted spare wheel can maintain the rugged character of the SUV.

The rear profile is expected to feature vertically oriented LED tail-lights. Design elements like neon-green accents on the roof rails can also give this SUV a distinctive look. Overall, the design of the Combat can appeal to buyers who prefer a muscular and adventure-inspired appearance instead of traditional urban SUVs.

The Jetour T2 has already received a facelift in the international market, but the new JSW Combat spotted testing in India appears to be based on the pre-facelift version. This means that the India-spec model could feature some market-specific design changes instead of the latest international updates.

New JSW Combat Interior and Features

Inside the cabin, the new JSW Combat is expected to feature a modern dashboard layout and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Based on the equipment available in the International Jetour T2, the India-spec SUV could feature features like a digital instrument display and a 15.6-inch touchscreen.

Some variants of the international model offer features like a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. However, the arrival of all these features in the India-spec Combat is not yet confirmed.

Safety and driver assistance features will also be important for buyers. A 360-degree camera system and some ADAS features are likely, depending on the equipment available in the international version. The final feature list, number of airbags, and safety technology details will be clear only after the company’s official announcement.

New JSW Combat SUV Price and India Launch

JSW Motors has not yet announced the official ex-showroom price of the Combat. Reports suggest its expected pricing will be in the premium SUV segment, but the final price will depend on the variant, features, and localization.

The SUV is expected to be assembled in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Local assembly could help the company determine the model’s supply and pricing strategy for India. However, details regarding the actual level of localisation and its impact on the final price are yet to be revealed.

The new JSW Combat could compete with other premium SUVs with electrified powertrain options in the Indian market. Its plug-in hybrid setup could distinguish it from conventional petrol-diesel SUVs and regular strong-hybrid models.

The SUV’s final specifications, features, and more information regarding its India launch are expected to be revealed at the unveiling event on December 4.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The new JSW Combat could be an interesting entry in the Indian market, especially if its expected 360hp plug-in hybrid powertrain and 90km electric-only range are realized in the production model. Its rugged design and long-claimed combined range could attract buyers who seek performance along with daily usability.

Currently, the most important details are the India-spec powertrain, final range, safety features and pricing. The unveiling event on December 4 will clarify how JSW Motors positions its first standalone SUV in the Indian market.
