However, different companies release their sales numbers in different reporting categories. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to group all manufacturers into a single apples-to-apples ranking. Therefore, we compare cars, two-wheelers, and growth in addition to overall volume.

Who sold the most vehicles in August 2026?

Looking at the reported numbers for August 2026, two-wheeler manufacturers achieved the largest volumes.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) sold approximately 5.79 lakh two-wheelers in August. Its total sales increased by approximately 8% year-on-year. Domestic sales were approximately 5.17 lakh, while exports were approximately 61,000 units.

Thus, in terms of volume, two-wheeler manufacturers posted significantly higher numbers than passenger car companies in August.

Mahindra’s SUV Sales Pick Up Pace

Mahindra’s performance was also strong in August 2026. The company’s domestic SUV sales stood at 59,257 units, registering a growth of nearly 50% year-on-year.

Mahindra’s overall automotive business, including exports, achieved sales of approximately 107,648 units. Total auto sales grew by approximately 42%, while exports were 6,054 units.

This performance can be attributed largely to the company’s strong SUV portfolio. Demand for Mahindra’s SUVs has remained strong for some time, and the August numbers again reflected this momentum.

Royal Enfield also recorded double-digit growth
