The Kawasaki Z650 S has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This is Rs. 33,000 more expensive than the standard Kawasaki Z650, whose current ex-showroom price is Rs. 7.26 lakh.

The new S variant is available in a single White/Green color option. Kawasaki has started deliveries from the day of launch, allowing interested buyers to explore it at dealerships.

The most noticeable update to the Kawasaki Z650 S is its revised exterior design. The motorcycle now follows the brand’s Sugomi design philosophy, which is also seen in larger naked streetfighters like the Kawasaki Z900.

The front section features a new headlight design, while the rear gets updated taillights. Revised body panels give the motorcycle a sharper and more aggressive appearance compared to the standard Z650.

The overall silhouette and naked streetfighter character are familiar, but the Z650 S appears more contemporary due to updated lighting elements and bodywork.

649cc Parallel-Twin Engine Remains Unchanged

On the mechanical front, the Kawasaki Z650 S is powered by the existing 649cc, parallel-twin engine. This engine produces 68.25 hp of maximum power and 64 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

No major mechanical updates have been made to the powertrain. This means the Z650 S’s performance is expected to remain similar to the standard Z650.

Kawasaki also offers a Quickshifter as an accessory, which gives riders the additional convenience of upshifting without using the clutch.

Suspension and Braking Setup Updated

Suspension duties on the Kawasaki Z650 S are handled by RSU forks at the front and a backlink monoshock at the rear. This setup is largely unchanged from the standard model.

However, there are noticeable differences in the braking hardware. The standard Z650’s 300mm dual discs are replaced by smaller 272mm dual discs at the front. The rear disc size has also been reduced from 220mm to 186mm.

The weight of the motorcycle has also increased. The Kawasaki Z650 S has a kerb weight of 193kg, while the standard Z650 weighs 188kg. This means the new S variant is 5kg heavier.

Auto India Daily Verdict

The Kawasaki Z650 S is not a complete mechanical upgrade of the standard Z650, but a styling and technology-focused new variant. Updated Sugomi design, sharper lighting elements, TFT display and smartphone connectivity give it fresh appeal.

However, buyers should also consider the changes made to the braking hardware and the 5kg additional weight. The Rs. 33,000 price difference is primarily for the refreshed styling and added technology, as the engine output is unchanged.

If you like the parallel-twin performance of the Z650 and want modern TFT connectivity along with an updated design, the Z650 S is an interesting option. But for existing Z650 owners, the upgrade decision will depend on styling and feature preferences.
